It's such a shame :(

Apart from him being a knob, her husbands comment makes no sense. If he doesn't like coloured cobs then why not a bay one? Clipped out like a show cob and in flattering tack they look very smart. Or a TB x native breed? Pull the mane and tail, trim the heels and you have a smart horse with some athletic ability and sane temperament. Why does it have to be a TB he owns and an ex-racer at that? It makes no sense.

Could the woman have lunge lessons on the horse? Just having an instructor holding the rope rather than her horrible husband would probably make a difference. Him telling her she is a bad rider isn't going to effect an improvement is it.
 
Sounds like she should get rid of the husband his bullying won't be helping the relationship with the horse :(. Maybe both of them should go and be replaced with a lovely cob
 
I can't help thinking that she needs to man up. Sell the horse herself if need be and tell husband, who is putting her in danger, that she wants support and that the horse is going, full stop.
