Well said. If this were a case of poverty, why on Earth would you risk the animal that works for you to survive in this way? Surely they could easily be injured. Ridiculous.

But I'm sure everyone of us who has commented on this thread, donate regularly to the Brooke, SPANA and the WHW to help eradicate such practices.

The bigger picture is, in fact, that the major part of the aid which we and other countries send to developing countries goes towards education in one form or another including health education. When people are educated and are able to raise their children to adulthood, they have fewer children (as happened here over the last century). Better education allows people to take better care of animals, the environment and other humans.
 
The first video is cruelty. Plenty of people rely on animals for a living, but if you make sure they are cared for then they will last longer. Ignorance is not an excuse for cruelty, if you stop and think it doesn't take a genius to work out that you're putting the horse at risk by doing that. I do understand that there is desperation but if you have to beat a horse to get it to pull heavy stuff then it doesn't seem like a good investment in time and money to me anyway.

The one where the horse attacks the man, has conveniently missed out the part before it where the crowd are pelting the poor creature with stones and sticks. Horse simply had enough, no where to run so the only option is to fight. Have seen a longer version of it before.

Brooks is such a good charity, I support them as much as I can (which isn't much I'm afraid) but if anybody asks what I want for Christmas or birthday I always ask for a donation to Brooks instead of a present.
 
I don't understand, hopefully someone can help.

Surely however misinformed they are, they understand whipping causes pain, and surely they realise being in pain hurts and hurting isn't pleasant...? I believe however uneducated someone is, they can understand that basic principle.

So they need animals to work for them, so they hurt them? I don't understand that view point. Most people understand a healthy creature is more use than an unhealthy beaten one - so why inflict that on something they apparently "need"?

I just don't understand.

It's so difficult to support charities abroad when lots of horses here in the UK are struggling but Brooke is one charity we always donate to when we can.

Agree with Spudlet that their education work is so important as well as lifting people out of poverty. It's the age old thing, some have so much and many have too little.
 
give me a whip and a gun i actually want to go there and do exactly the same to them and animal cruelty should be delt with that way you starve a animal u should starve you beat a animal u should be beaten with in inches of your life to and left to die one less very nasty person (cant use my words of choice) in the world would not be so whip happy then . makes me sick litterally

It is so hard to comprehend isn't it? I think with a less civilsed, under developed country, comes a less civilised under developed mind. Lack of intelligence and definitley lack of compassion for others. I do believe they know how violence affects others. But in some ways don't care like we do. Due to their basic way of living. Food and shelter prob being their only thought.

I remember watching a video (unsure what country, but definitely an underdeveloped poor country) Of a small thin boy who had stolen a bun as he so hungry. His punishment was, to be tied on the floor, his arm out, and for a truck to drive over his arm. To teach him stealing is wrong. If they treat people like this, animals don't stand a chance.

I do think education comes into it hugely, they probably don't know any other way. Their nature seems extrememly basic. I have watched many a video which displays complete lack of empathy for animals, in india, two men putting a lovely old GSD into the back of a rubbish truck (complete with working crushing parts) because the dog was old and they wanted to get rid of it. There was no feelings involved, it was all matter of fact.

I don't know the answers, but I do think education,inteligence and enviroment play the biggest part. However, I do think you get bad people everywhere. Take india, where the sport of bear baiting is banned (where two dogs are set upon a toothless,clawless bear) this sport is still happening underground. The people must know it's wrong as it's banned, even going against their religion. But they must make a lot of money from it. With most evils, money tends to be at the source of it. But feeding their families is probably their only thought.

As I say this is just my thoughts, I don't think they see the bigger picture, their minds being focused on surviving. If you ask a man in India/egypt who has a dancing bear, he will say he cares for his bear. He gives it food,water,shelter. But he can't understand that the very act of making it dance, with the rope through it's nose, causing searing pain every time it's tugged. Is cruel. It's a way to earn money. Education is the way forward, but I think it will take an extremely long time.:(
 
Trouble is, as with watching videos of starving children. We all go back to our luxury filled lives. With food at the ready, good shelter etc.

This world is a shocking place.
