One of my livery owners has found herself in dire straights and is having to sell up. Ive had her old mare here for almost 8 years and now have been asked to find her a home -wont be easy

. This summer I had her daughters eventer here and I kept him ticking over for them -she needs to sell him too and is terrified of what may happen to him here in Italy.Chances are, he will be run into the ground and when he has no more to give will end up.....! My question is this-would it be worth my while advertising him in GB? Hes 15 yrs old, has done 2* eventing in his day, dressage(which he does now), showjumps up to 1m 20 with ease. He also hacks out alone or in co., loads easily, clips blah blah blah. She is willing to take very little for him and her son who is a transporter will deliver him free to France to be picked up. his passport is up to date and he will have an up to date vets cert with him. Do you think this is feasible? Forgot to say, hes Selle Francaise, about 16.2, very easy to do and is push button ride but isnt dead.If I had him doing shoulder in etc then anyone can

. Anyone got any ideas?

I have more photos if anyone is interested plus the ownwr is going to send me more detailed info on him. Mairi.

it would definatly be worth a try i would say but the price would obviously have to be reduced so that people think its a feasible option to have him trsnsported

I want! If he's that experienced and cheap enough to buy and transport I imagine someone in the UK might want him (other than me as I can't afford another for another few months!)

From what she told me, she is willing to take very little for him and the transport will be included in the price (Italy-Calaise).

Id try Mairi. Primarily because the Uk horse market is very inflated atm and horses prices are high.

If your friend is willing to take quite little money for what looks like a straight forward horse, she might be able to sell him here. The only thing id say is that his age isnt in his favour as sadly, anything over 10 seems to be considered old in the uk these days :/

Think it a good idea to advertise him in the UK. In the advert you could offer to arrange accommodation if people want to travel over and try him.

And explain trial facilities etc so people could incorporate a weekend in Italy with trying the neddie. He looks lovely by the way.

he is stunning i personally would be put off buying a horse in a different country however alot of people wouldn't so have a go on the websites as its not too costly plus there are some good free sites out there

Will PM all of you with the info asap.

regardless of age I think you'd sell him no problem. He would make a fantastic school master for someone who could ride him for love and joy alone(IF NOTHING ELSE) for many many years. A friend of mine has had all her horse forever, seen them through their careers (all BE and a xc county champion) and into their retirements and they are all LATE twenties, early thirties and still being ridden and loved! I wouldn't discount the 'right' horse for this age that's for sure.

Friends have bought 'green' 5 year olds because a ten year old was deemed 'too old' (???) for a child as they thought it would 'last longer' (nuts). They have lived to regret it and ruined the horse in the meantime as they didn't have experience, the horse didn't have experience and they didn't have any professional help. Bit of a nightmare.
