For D.I.Y, part and full livery, 5 days or 7.
But I am still unsure what to include for which type of livery and also the prices.. :/
D.I.Y stable rent is £23 per week and I get to keep what I earn from any liveries.
I am very indecisive and aware of not outpricing liveries so I don't want to be too cheeky but i do want to make it worthwhile.
I've phoned a few local yards posing as a potential livery but they didn't have any vacancies at all so promptly put the phone down,so i'm none the wiser.
Can you lot give any rough guides?
It's a nice yard with olympic sized floodlit outdoor arena, really posh brick built stables, massive tack room, 20 acres of grazing, good outriding and is in a good area of North Wales.
Thanks:)

put my horse on small yard of 6 whilst at school so i can ride in areana and its 30 plus 5 for hay a week, stable are not posh brick, not olympic iszed areana or even floodlit, not 20 acre and tack room is okay, so i pay 35 including straw and hay. You could charge anything from 23 to 50 i would say about 35

Well it really does depend where in the country you are based, speak to most people on here and there is such a varied amount paid per week, and what the yard offers.

thanks, that sounds about right.
but the £23 stable rent is fixed as the yard owner keeps that but any ideas on part/full livery? or what would you expect to be included?

in cluded would be, turnout, changing of rugs, boots and bringing in of horse, may need exercised for full, mucking out, feeding, if part time it may be that owner can see to horse at night but needs you to turnout and feed and chnage rugs in morning, another may want you to do all except at weekends. how many stables and how close to other equine facilities?

Funny we were talking about this earlier. In our area £70pw full livery, no exercise but turnout in a basic yard. In a good one over £100 pw inc exercise. Realistically though how many horses could you feed, rug up, boot up, turnout, muck out, ride, bring in etc per day. You will be knacked!!!
Great oportunity though, good luck.

Old yard used to charge £70 per week for what they classed as full livery- that meant turning out/bring in,change rugs, feed(provide your own),muck, hold for vet etc,hay/straw,didn't groom,if shavings provide own, access to dark leaky indoor school(but at least it was there),outdoor paddock, people on site 24/7.Have found that between £50-£70 to be average for that round here
Suppose it would depend of the 'money' in your area as to what you should charge.

At my old yard the livery girl managed 6 full liveries on her own plus her own 2. She did mucking out, nets, rugs, turn out and bring in, legs cleaned, hooves picked, general health check and bucket feeds. All bedding and hay included but not hard feed. She didnt exercise and charged extra for vaccinations, wormers and holding horses for vets/farriers, shoes extra also. She charged £70 per week in winter and £45 per week in summer.

There are 20 boxes, including my own and i'd be living on site when I get planning permission through.. *rolls eyes*
I could do as many part liveries as poss.
But I do not own the yard so feed would not be included, for full liveries hay and straw would but yard owner gets hay straw money, i just get payment for any jobs i do.
would you expect part liveries to be mucked out or just fed, rugs changed, turned out and brought in?
Full liveries will be pampered! and also lunged/ridden/walked out if requested.
I have liveries coming at the weekend and need to sort out my prices!

i used to live in manchester and that seems the price everyone charges.
I've done all the riding school/equine college work so am used to having too many horses to do but as I will be managing my time by myself without proprietors breathing down my neck so that'd be easier and everything would get done while they're turned out and their stables are drying:) and be able to snack when i need it (diabetes)
It seems like my dream job so I really don't wanna mess this up:/
Thanks for all the comments everyone:)

I have mine on part livery 7 days per week. for that they mucked out (mine are on rubber with a scattering of shavings though I could have straw at no extra cost), rugs changed, turned out and brought in. All hay, bedding and feed is provided. Any suppliments are my responsibility. YM will supervise farrier, vet, physio. We american barn yard, wash box with hot shower, a caravan (nice one) to sit and have coffee, one floodlight school plus a larger school with full set of showjumps (have to hire that one). We dont pay extra for the floodlights or the hot water. All this costs £62.50 per horse per week if you want a full shavings bed add on another £10/week. Lorry parking is £2.50 and trailer £2 both subject to availability.

The DIY's pay £25 per week for the box, turnout and use of the facilities, they are responsible for all feed, bedding, hay, supervision, care etc. They can buy services as they need them and I think it is £4 for a muck out and £2.50 to turnout £2.50 to bring in (includes rug changing). Holiday cover is charged at £8 per day and they must make sure there is enough feed etc to last whilst they are away.

Hope that helps and good luck with your new venture

Full livery I would classify as everything inc. exercise ( I would say 4 times a week and then if they want more charge extra say £6 an hour

) and tack cleaning. I think the way to think of full livery is you are looking after the horse as if the owner is on holiday ( whether it is 5 or 7 days) so everything should be done. I would say around £100 for 7 days and about £8o for 5 day both inc. hay and straw (shavings and feed extra). That should also include holding for vet/ farrior- but obviously not shoes, wormers and vaccinations.

Part livery I would say is everything apart from grooming, riding and tack cleaning. This gives people the flexibility to miss one day coming up and it not to matter. This would also include hay and straw and holding for farrior/vet . I would say charge around £70 for 7 days and £60 for 5 days.

On top of d.i.y you could offer services incase people can't come up say muck out (£5) or bring in atc. Or offer a days looking after for £10.

Why would you call it 'Full Livery' and then exclude feed and shavings !?

For your version of 'Part Livery' I currently pay £75 per week (7 days) including feed and shavings....and have better facilities than those listed above. I.e large indoor and outdoor schools, and private woodland hacking on site. Full livery including exercise at another yard nearby is £105 per week (7 days), and we're in the 'expensive' south

i think full livery as i have alwasy thought includes bedding, hay and the care of the horse, i dont see how you include the feed as the horse could be on really expensive feed so i would not include feed. i would charge about 45 a week for diy as i pay 30 for very little

Because that is what most of the yards i know do, you can still have shavings it just adds on a few pounds more because they are more expensive that straw, as well as feed, it is provided but at extra costs as different horses have different feeds therefore costing different amounts- i know i wouldnt want to pay the same for chaff and carrots when someone else gets a full feed for the same price.

As for prices i am basing it on the south east as i have no knowledge of wales so obviously it would have to change for area. Decent yards around here cost a bomb

ETS tophorse explained the point about feeds better.

I pay £15/wk DIY,but for that I simply get a stable and unlimited turnout.I provide all bedding/feed etc and will have to poo pick the paddock etc myself.I also get a storage area for all my stuff(although it's not that big).

Hmmmm...that's interesting ! I've always had feed and bedding included in my livery charges. The horses get what they need....even some of the more expensive things like Calm & Condition if they need it. The only bits I would pay extra for are any supplements that I specifically want my horse on. Guess my livery is better value than I thought

Ha tis indeed, of all the yards i have seen around here shavings and feed, other than basics was extra...maybe i need to move near you!

Sorry I was meaning 'how would you manage to do everything and ride the full liveries as well' We sometimes do 8 horses between 2 of us when YO's away but that doesnt include riding them and we get them done in hardly any time at all.
Good luck, love to get an oportunity like you have. Beats working in an office anyday!!!

just adding that hay and straw is included in any non diy liveries! i pay the yard owner for what i use on them, so if I do a full livery for £75
and y/o gets £23 for stable,£16 for hay,and £10 for straw(giving average use of 4 bales of each) I make £26 per week for a full livery and practically nothing for a part so I could do with getting as many jobs as poss
