As of last night I know that my riding is utter rubbish (I now feel I ride like a sack of spuds)... I've always known I'm not the best rider but can walk, trot, canter and pop a little jump. But last night, oh dear... :o I currently have another HHO'er who is helping me work my horse as he is up for sale, so that he can be shown off to his best (he's only up for sale as I cant give him the work he needs thanks to my knackered joints) and my god, she's blooming brilliant, cracking little rider :D She made me realise just how much work I have to put in and I'm still only a fraction of a rider that she is and that I'm making the right decision to sell my horse so that I can get something more suitable and experienced for my needs. It just goes to show that when someone else rides your horse, puts everything into perspective and that you see the things that you didnt see before...

I know the feeling, my sister-in-law rides my 5 year old every now and then (she's not ridden for years either.) and she can get him to do everything!!! Shoulder in, half pass collected trott everything!!! I can just about get him to move away from my leg, not straight tho!! So I know how you feel!!!

You'd love to hate them, but cann't.

Luckily Zoomy looks like a gurning freak whoever rides her ;) Monty used to drive me nuts though, my friend from work used to come and ride him and he would float around the field.....before resorting to donkey when I got on.

Sigh...... :(

The worst is when your instructor rides your horse! We were trying to do a turn on the forehand (this is the pony that did no flatwork at all for the first 15 years of her life!) and i was failing miserably... my instructor gets on and of course Tops does it perfectly :( :D :D

I feel just the same! my friend (a miss "Sheri" - you may see her floating around here sometimes) used to school my horse for me. With her he goes on the bit in walk, trot, and sometimes canter and looks all pretty - with me his head is in the air and he trips over his feet as if he's never walked before!

:( I hate her sometimes ....

Oh how well do I know that feeling!.... I always have the "I wanna ride like that" winge. however, one day a lady said to me " I wanna ride like you" and I thought "whoa I have arrived". I was swiftly reminded how bad I was the next day - horses can be a terribly grounding influence!

I sold my previous mare for what sounds like similar reasons to your sale - she was too much for me though and just scared me in the end. She did however go beautifully for my boss, she looked like a proper dressage pony, she could get her over anything (and wow could my little mare jump!) and it just made me jealous and want to ride her and do it too! Gave me the incentive to become a better rider though!

Since then I have tried to be the best rider I can, and brought on my new little man, and always wanted to see how he 'went' for someone else - a better rider than me but my RI got on him a few weeks ago and he didn't really go much better!! Made me proud to see how much I have improved, but I do know where B's buttons are and no one else ever really rides him - I love riding him too much!!

My sister and i have this problem with my pony. Whenever i ride her shes well behaved but when my siter rides her she pretends everything is going to eat her and sits in bushes. Then she forgets what circles even are and doesnt know the meaning of collected.
My instructor makes me feel like i ride like an idiot ... she can get the daft pony to canter (something i have yet to master -_-).
i think it happens with most horses to be honest as my mum had a similar problem. Her arab cross used to bully her and bite her but would jump anything my auntie pointed her at. I don't think we'd change them (as long as they dont bully us) because then we can aspire to being able to make them do all the wonderful things others can get them to do.
:D:)
