I really like the PE rugs, the ones with the detachable liners... But I can't be bothered to fork out that much on a youngster that... Whilst I don't think will grow much more... I can't guarantee that yet. So, I'm going to make my own liners, taking the good old duvet, I'm going to get a decent high denier rug turn out rug, maybe even the PE one, and have a stab at making my own rug liner, I know I could just use a duvet, but I want something that fixes at the front and is shaped.... So, will update when it's done but if anyone here has done it, let me know any tips you have :)

Personally I think PE liners are fab and you won't beat them. I bought two in sale and two second hand and have asked for another for Christmas. I wash and rotate with 2 horses wearing NZ rugs 24-7.

PE liners are breathable, antibacterial, well cut, non bulky, light weight, made of silky material that polishes coat, non rub, fab fit. Quick drying if horse charges round field or when washed. Are hard wearing. I'd look out for PE liners in post Christmas sale.

I think duvets fine for in stable under rugs but don't think I'd want to turn out in one.

I bought a cheap (£19) stable rug took fastenings off made Velcro front fastening and a few tabs and use that

It's a shiny rug so it's inside out with the shiny nylon next to the pony to avoid friction and shine is coat and the polycotton original lining us now the outer which grips the rug on top too

Thanks Dizzy, I don't currently have any, however was considering purchasing a liner and wanted to check.

Yes, I've no doubt about that, and I do want to get the full PE system with liners at some point but Ben is only 3 1/2 at the moment so I'd rather leave it till maybe next winter just incase he grows some more, hence the DIY job for the moment :)

Second hand market for liners in good. If buy and sell second hand doubt would lose much. That said we are probably over 1/2 way thru winter now!

Yeah, I am just at the point where he needs a little bit extra warmth with the temp drop now, I'll cobble something together until next winter :). Never seen the rug liners for sale second hand... Plenty of rugs but no liners :(

I got both my liners second hand off preloved. Paid 25 each if i remember correctly.
I also use with pe rugs and clip at front and d rings and on other rugs just clip to d rings and leave front loose (obviously do up front velcro!)

my horse is in a pe trio rug. I dont find that it moves but Im looking for another pe 7ft trio rug but I cant afford a new one and I keep checking ebay but cant find any.

The amigo bravo is cheap enough and you can use the rambo liners with them.
Fieldmate has this system for her youngster and they fit nicely, and dont appear to rub/slip.
Will be what I replace mine with I think.

swish are selling off 'seconds' 50g and 100g stable rugs on ebay for £20. I got one and its fab as an under rug. Also a few horseware offers on their liners on ebay too!
