farrier came today and the shoes are off! so glad as i wanted them off for ages, ordered my 'feet first' book to have a good read up and hopefully all will go well and go in favour of her ddft tear. bit of a pointless post really but thought i'd say so anyway as im happy i've done it :)

Glad you have the support of your farrier - wish I had a supportive one when I needed it...

Good luck and I'm sure you know where to look for info, support and advice... UKAEP & UKNHCP is a good place to start...

I'm seriously considering doing this with my arthritic boy. He's not got the best hooves in the world. Diagnosed with spavins behind and ringbone in front aged 9 - not sounding great is he? Have my suspicions that both were confounded by poor farriery when I first had him. Been umming and arghing over it for a while. Am very interested in how it turns out with you.

Good on you, hope it works out, my boy is barefoot, suits him after years of being shod for competition, he was 19 in April been barefoot for a few years now. Make sure you keep trimming regularly :)
