Well, Im on holiday camping in the Lake District at the moment (obviously its raining:rolleyes:) and went to a heavy horse riding centre (not sure if i'm allowed to post the name of it or not :s ) and went out on a 2hr hack with some of my family.
It was amazing and the horse i rode was a 17.3/18hh-ish clydesdale :)
Considering my mare is a 14.3hh irishX, this clydie seemed very high up!

He was a dream to ride - a little fresh to say the least and threw in a few bucks but somehow i managed to stay on :D I think it was the fear of the distance to the ground that made me stay on! :p

I have been desperate to ride a Clydie for years so now i can finally say I've done it! :D:D

I'm trying to upload a pic now but internet is pretty slow! :( I'll keep trying though!

Heres a pic --->

Pleast excuse the dodgy position:rolleyes: my body protector wasnt done up so it was rather uncomfortable - I dont normally ride leaning that far forwards!! :D

Did they used to be on the isle of skye in scotland? If so I rode there too aged 13 and loved it :) I had a 16.3 clydie that felt HUGE dad had an 18hh that made him look small!! Such a comfortable steady ride :)

Sophiebailey - I think you're right. I rode on Skye a few years back and remember they were moving down to the LD, think they were planning on riding down over a few weeks which would have been fun!

Nothing more fun than riding a Clydie - mine outwalks my friends Warmblood - is braver than her and despite being green led everyone past the men sorting stuff inthe barn - while tha others all huffed and snorted she glanced in the direction of the barn and carried on.

Bless my Clydie - she's awesome.

On skye the centre was west highland heavy horses but unsure what they're called now, really enjoyed it, I believe the ride to the LD was dubbed the great clydesdale migration! I had the pleasure of riding a lovely gelding named Jock, my sister rode a little white pony named Roo who they nicknamed stinkyroo :)

Majestic- takes me back to when we had our beloved shire 'Bess'. Most comfortable armchair ride ever. Would definately look up if I get to the LD.

Yes they trekked them from the isle of Skye in Scotland. Apparently it took about 40days! :0
Needless to say I'm very sore this morning! All the horses were lovely, even if they were a bit 'fresh' ;) I would definitely go there again. Ive got some more pics ill try and post them up today or tomorrow - Internet is sparce here!!! X

I've had 2 Clydie mares, both very sensible - one once took her friend (regular occurance) and 2 complete strangers past a bus on a narrow bend at a junction, without turning a hair. Neither of them would have dreamed of bucking. We always said that they couldn't be bothered to lift the bulk that high! Admittedly we didn't give them hard feed, which I guess the working ones will get.
They are fabulous horses but unfortunately rather in-bred these days, so I haven't got one now but would love a smaller cross.

My boy is a clydesdale x cob, he has all the markings plus the little moustache but not the massive height (he is only 16hh).....would love to have a go on a full clydesdale!!!
