Thank you to all of those who have been really supportive but I have now buckled to family pressure (Thread http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=388454) and putting my mare up for sale. I can see the sense in not owning a 5 year old when I am 4 months pregnant and we are struggling for money but doesn't make it any easier! :'( Not sure what responses I am expecting, if any, just sad, but accepting!

I've tried finding a loaner and got messed around. I don't want her wasting away in the field and feel she is being wasted! This isn't easy decision, but think I would struggle to find a loaner that I trusted enough.
I think part of loving her is trying to do what is best for her not me.

I am really sorry to hear that you are going to sell your mare. I do understand your reasons for selling but if you have any doubts whatsoever all I can say is please don't sell. You will regret it and then end up resenting your families because of it. Is there nowhere you could send her on loan away to someone you trust who can keep her in work while you are pregnant and be willing to pay for the cost of her keep?
If I had the time I would willingly do that for you but unfortunately I work nights and find it hard enough to find time for my own horse let alone another one. However there are always people looking to loan or share a horse, even more who want to move them to their present yards. There are good loaners out there as well as the bad ones who we all get to hear more about and providing you thoroughly check out the potential home and ensure a good tight contract is in place there is no reason why that shouldn't work.

Thats really sad....Please take your time over this.....I tried to put my horse out on loan when I was pregnant with baby no 4 (!), but I was lost without her....when I had given birth, I just wanted to get back to riding, and was very grateful I hadnt sold her, and she was being loaned to a friend, so I was able to have her straight back....
