Or more acurately what about for the OH?

I'm hoping to learn to tow this autumn (by taking lessons, lots of money!) but as we are somewhat broke I am thinking of buying a project trailer as something nice and flash is out of the question.

OH is pretty blooming handy and is a structural engineer so has a fairly good engineers brain but how difficult is it to fix up something which is a bit down at heel?

Has anyone done this succesfully? What do we need to look out for when we buy?

Any advice very warmly received! :)

Hi, cant offer any advice but we have just bought a trailer to do the same with so will be watching thread! ours is slightly different as its a livestock trailer we are converting to a miniature shetland trailer.

i think project trailers rarely work out as bargains unless:

a) you get them very cheap/free and they are basically sound chassis wise.
b) your oh can do all the work,
c) you have budgeted for the parts you might need -

new tyres - £160. new floor £300ish. paint - £150-£700 depending on whether you can do it yourself or not. that's excluding new brakes, linkages, maybe hitch components. etc and the fitting of the new parts, watch out for leaky roofs. Ifor williams has a good parts catalogue showing all the prices of bits., but to tart up a trailer top to toe, you could easily be looking at spending £1k.
