Also does anyone have any tips on helping me to get her weight down, i am really struggling. She is out during the day in a starvy paddock with muzzle and in at night from 5 till 9 and she has 1 section of soaked hay. She gets a small feed of a handful of hi fi lite with vitamin and mineral supplement.

I am at my wits end as she is so fat and nothing seems to be working so any advice tips would be great!

Firstly the hogged look really suits her. She looks great.

Secondly you have said what you're feeding her but what work is she getting? The answer might be to work her more.

Does the crest feel hard or have hard lumps at all? If it's soft then it's not AS bad.

Like the above poster, I'd like to know what wor4k she is doing

My boy gets a small feed with a small handful of hifi lite or hoofkind, garlic, aloe vera and formula for feet. He gets hay soaked for 24 hours. He is on a small, eaten down paddock and had a muzzle but I am going to probably keep him in for a day or 2 while the sores go down and try and get him back out in the muzzle. He is only out for 4-5 hours a day. If she is out during the day then she's getting the best grass, even though she is in longer than out, so you could try and cut down the hours she is grazing if possible, but if she's in a starvy with a muzzle then that's probably not going to make a difference.

My boy is getting schooled/lunged 20 minutes a day and 2 hacks - 1 of 20-30 minutes and another of up to 2 hours (mostly it's about 60ish minutes, though).

The crest is soft to touch sort of spongy. Thats a good idea about cutting down grazing time maybe i will have to give that a go. Also i only soak the hay for 12 hours i will try soaking it for longer.

She has always had a crest even, when i bought her 14 years ago, even when she has been a good weight she still has the crest. Could she have EMS?

I'd try her out at night with a muzzle as she will move around more, in during the day with some hay. I wouldn't feed her anything else. No supplements, nothing, she looks very well and probably only needs extras in Winter. Workwise just keep going as you are but like with us, brisk walking probably burns fat better than jumping etc.

Hogged suits her BTW.

We had big problems with one of our ponies last year and i struggled to get it, but managed to get it off over ther winter. He was out 24/7 and had hay in field and was fed a handful of chaff and he was clipped with a high trace with only a light weight rug on.

We tend to bring him in during the day, with 1 slice of soaked hay and put him out in filed which has been constantly grazed and i feed him 6 equibites a day for his vitamins

And he is worked everyday.

Good luck, its a hard slog.

have a look at this website, they make a track round the edge of the paddock so the ponies have to walk round and mimic the wild! also it means you can rest the middle for the winter. i guess it depends on how much grass you have and how big is your paddock, i am going to try this at the weekend, rather than strip grazing it also means that i can move bits of fence and so they can have some extra grass

ps i know its a natural horse site i got sent it by a fellow fatty owner
