Pointless post, maybe "everyone" else on HHO already knew they existed? But I only knew of the type of training equipment which basically looks like a barrel being used for equestrian vaulting training, and I've also seen the type of mechanical training horses e.g. jockeys can use which moves while standing on the same spot, but today I learnt that there's actually also equestrian vaulting training machines which not only simulates the horse's movement, without it also does it whilst moving around in a circle. 😲 I had no idea that such things existed.

In case someone else also haven't seen them, here's a short video

Interesting and surely so much safer!

My daughter vaulted in her early teens. I hated it! I find it a bit weird but also I used to firstly feel a bit sorry for the horses, especially with beginners, although to be fair it wasn't like learning to ride, they were very quickly standing on a cantering horse- It was the getting on that made me die inside.
They would have one on the horse (who wasn't small by any means!) In canter, then the kid in the middle would skip in, run alongside, Hold hands with the one on board and just kind of jump. You can imagine the times this went slightly wrong it meant the kid ended up under the horse, who to be fair stopped instantly in that situation but there was a few times they took a whack, with no hats on.

A mechanical horse would be far far safer and better all round.

Yep, vaulting incurs my wrath too. The horse is there purely to make the whole thing more visual and exciting… while the - no doubt incredibly well looked after - horse gets pulled around whilst simultaneously dying of boredom. Vaulting is an amazing sport and requires a lot of skill, but it doesn’t need horses. If it were a circus we’d all be tutting, but it’s okay in a riding school arena?

edit to add: I saw Jesse Drent on YouTube using one before he moved on to a horse. (My attempts to avoid equine influencers on YT isn’t going that well 😅). I left a comment to say I didn’t like it, expecting a wall of pre teens to get very annoyed with me - so far, I’m safe 😉
