Has anyone got one of these or know what the 'typical' unladen weight is for a standard x2 horse facing backwards (I will only be carrying one).

Theres one advertised which I have seen and is a 2001 lwb iveco daily. Horsebox conversion was done in 2005 (not sure who by but I can find out) and is a typical rear facing two staller. Small grooms bit in the back, nothing fancy in there just a tiny sink.

Ive been told by the seller (who is in no way horsey btw!) that they have taken it to a weigh bridge and come up against a 'problem' and that it came in at just over 3 tonnes - of course this makes it useless for transporting any horses. Does this sound right? I know 3.5 tonners you have to be careful on weight but I have NEVER heard of any coming in at this sort of weight even the old fashioned coachbuilt lt35's which are pretty hefty, quite often have more in terms of living space and you can still carry one horse in them (which is all I am EVER going to do)

Bit gutted really as its a very nice box (and a potential bargain) but if that unladen weight is correct then theres no way it'll ever have a horse in it legally :(
 
There is no typical weight, because it depends entirely on what materials were used in its conversion to a horsebox. If in doubt, arrange to take it to a weighbridge with the vendors. Otherwise you will need to walk away and find another one.

I know when I went looking at small lorries - not just 3.5 tonners, what I found, was that people had laid layer over layer of ply on the floors, some of the one's I saw had 3 layers of heavy ply, to make the floor sound, it must have added tremendously to the weight. It also made me walk away because the floor is so important, I don't know why they hadn't removed the original floors and replaced them properly, instead of doing a cheap job.
 
When I was looking round for a box, I heard a lot of tales. Not sure how true this is but I heard of one 3.5 ton which was weighed with just a driver in it and had a payload of 10kg! Maybe the driver was HUGE...

when I was looking around at 3.5t boxes, I was told by someone that the Ivecos were commonly heavier than some other makes. Certainly, all those that I looked at or enquired about generally had terrible payloads.

Also, you rarely see any of them made in to the little snazzy boxes like the Movano or Relay. :)
