Just been for a nosey at a local show and seen one of these. It had 2 ponies in it and seemed a squeeze for them to stand herringbone/diagonal. Can these really carry a large horse on the diagonal properly or are they sort of stood pretty much forwards.

I looked into buying one of these when I wanted to carry 3 herringbone but decided against it when I saw the loading diagrams. It seems that they only carry 2 horses forward facing, or more ponies going herringbone. Not much use to me then, so went for the 511 to just caarry two, as who wants to tow all that trailer around with just two horses inside (unless I'm missing something!)? I'm sure I've seen bigger horses crammed in herringbone with ponies alongside but am not convinced it would be wise. If I had gone for a 3 horse I would have bought a Van Fautras Oblic +3.

will not travel in a normal trailer so we eventually managed to afford a 7.5t wagon so his lordship can travel sideways

Its just stood there and the insurance etc is nearly due and it seems such a waste. If only he would travel in a trailer. I did try and failed to get him in an equitrec but he was freaked out for a long time after his terrible (not) journey in a trailer. Im wondering if he would go in one now as hes got his confidence back again. Id love a small 3.5t wagon but really for what we do a trailer would be the best option. I have looked before at the Fautras but I cant take the risk just incase lord wont travel in one and there isnt a distributor anywhere near us to hire and try first.

Is he bad to travel in a trailer just on his own, or with company too? I tend to travel my horse (and daughter's pony who is a pain) without a partition and they both brace themselves diagonally and then travel fine. I'm hoping that in the new 511 they will both travel with the partition in as it is lighter and bigger than the 505. Is there an IW dealer near you who hires them out so you could try one, or beg one off a friend for some trailer training? Sorry I'm not closer (south coast) or I'd come over with mine for a try out. Good luck with it. x

Awww thanks for the thought.
No its trailers in general, tried a few

, with partition and without partition. After horsey decided he didnt like trailer travelling, I practiced and practiced. Yes he would load easily for about 2 seconds but would fly out front or back before the ramp could be put up, trampelling anything in his way, even tried to come through the jockey door, which was scary and also bent the ramp in one. Hes a big boy too.
Hubby was that scared by the end of our 'practice to load' sessions that he walked off and said it would be the death off me and he is a laid back, bother about nothing sort of bloke.
I think he is generally scared/claustophobic?? as he travels fantastic in a wagon. It did take us over an hour to get him to load again into a wagon the first time but he is fine now.
