A strange question but what size collar does your jack russel take? and any piccies would be appreciated. We are going to see a Jack russel puppy tomorrow and I have no idea what size in anything he'll need!!
Depends, you want something small but not too small - not really that helpful there am I?? LOL. I bought Jimmy a harness and it was xxs and by the time he was able to go out on it he'd out grown it.
Can't keep a collar on my JRT Hobo as his neck is thicker than his head!!! I use a harness but he can get out of that as well.
My neighbour came into the yard today in his tractor and Hobo stood in front of it barking defiance. All JRTs think they are Mammoth sized and take on the world. Little dogs with huge heart and spirit. I hope you enjoy your new baby as much as I enjoy my little guy.
Thanks guys, will start looking today for a puppy set. I have visions of this big collar on this tiny little neck lol
Thats why I chose a JRT, I want a big dog trapped inside a small dogs body! I want something fun and energetic but small enough to cope in my small house! And obvisouly it would be lovely to have something that could come in the lorry with me to shows etc.
I love my Jack to bits. He is 6 months old now and has gone a bit "leggy".
Anyone know anything about the original Parson Jack Russels, apparently they were a bit longer in the leg than most of todays versions.
I only know that they started off as the Parson Jack Russell Terrier then they dropped the "jack" and became the Parson Russell Terrier because the breed club decided that they didn't want anything to do with the Jack Russell Terrier, generally the ones with short legs, which happen to be the original/traditional Jacks.
The Parson Russell is a KC reg breed, have you read anything on the KC website about the breed? May give a bit of breed history, or you could google it. The traditional Jacks aren't KC reg so you'd have to google it or find a book that covers both.
This is the link you need for finding a bit more out about the Parson Jack Russell! I had the book but lent it to someone, and it never returned, so unfortunately I can't look up the info you might be interested in.

Thats precisely why i got mine.... small dog with big heart and lively! Boris absolute adores coming in my car/tractors.
BTW he's now an adult he takes 14" collar. I still have his tiny puppy collar... it was about 8-10"
My JRT is aout 10 weeks now and we cant find a collar thats small enough! I think im going to try a cat collar to start with until a puppy collar fits. All the puppy collars are in boys colours too
My JRT dog is a little bu**er, has small dog syndrome, looks dead cute when walking courses etc but woe betide anyone who goes to pet him!! He is 3 1/2 and has a 13" neck.
His mother was a minature but he is much stockier than her.
A wagon is not a wagon without a JRT in the cab!!!
Ferret is a cute name - I was going to call mine weasel lol but I thought it a little mean - tee hee. The good thing with Roly is I can call him Roland if he's naughty!
Sniggers.
i brought Izzy a puppy collar, lead & xs harness. it took quite a while for them to fit & she is still wering her puppy stuff (shes 4 1/2mths). they cost a couple of ££ each
So gorgeous. Bet you can't wait until he comes home, but three weeks will give you time to gather up a few bits and pieces.
The puppy collar I bought for mine was red nylon and didn't have holes as such, the tongue of the buckle could go through it anywhere so was easy to adjust as small as necessary.
Also buy a puppy Kong so he can always have that to chew rather than the furniture.
Best of luck.
