Advice would be appreciated, thanks

I always thought that of jacks, but we have one one now. got him when he was just over a year old. he is fab with the cats, they hiss at him and he just looks at them sadly and walks away. He is a bit of a wimp though, will not go out in the garden if it is raining.....

I imagine with a puupy, the cats would sort him out pretty quickly!

Dont have any children living here but he was great with my god daughter who is not even a year.

I got mine from a rescue, approx 1 yr old, hated cats and it took us a few weeks until they would meet, they are now the bestest of buds and dog even allows one cat to clean her face.
She is a snappy jack, but I do know ones that aren't so don't let that put you off.
They do have such character that you will love

My JR lives with a cat! Not great with young children but then we don't have any... He loves older children though (and not in a gourmet sort of way). I don't think you will have a problem if you get a puppy. I associate snappy JRs with old ladies and novice dog owners who think they've bought a lap dog...

I have a 8 week old JRT, my first (I have a springer, GSD, 2 cats and 4 kids) I deffo think its down to how you bring them up, he is already showing a great deal of boldness and 'grit' but taught properly I cant see it being an issue. I would say just from the few days I have had him that they are definately the kind to keep 'on top of' to stop any naughtiness becoming a problem. ( and they are mental, but hilarious!!!)

We have 3 russells and all are super with the children, loving and protective but never aggressive to anyone. Our wimpy boy russell follows our younger child around the house to make sure he is safe and then sleeps with his head on his lap.

They are real characters and the fun with getting a new one is which weird character trait it will have!

I have 8 cats and 2 JRTs. The dogs do chase the cats - but often the cats just turn round and look at them as if to so 'what'.

They are a bit yappy but they don't bite. We did a lot of work on soft mouthing when they were puppies - yelping like a puppy when they bit to hard and they learnt very quickly.

One of the cats really loves the dogs a bit too much
