WARNING - last photo is a bit nasty!

Well, it's been a while, but I haven't had much to update, as it's the same old story - wound not yet healed, don't know how long it will take.

Today I saw the wound for the very first time - it's always been covered by a dressing or cast when I see him usually, but today I was at the yard when the dressing needed changing (every 5 days or so now).

It's still a bit mucky, and oozing a bit, but after 10 weeks, we're left with just a hole to heal up (last photo). It's likely that his hock will not look much different to how it does now in terms of size - good job I didn't buy him for his looks!

Hopefully, he'll be off box rest in a month or two. He's now getting a bit grumpy and bored in his box, and trying to take it out on me when I groom him. Poor sausage.

In other news, I've ridden twice in the last few days, (second and third times in 10 weeks!) and fell in love with the horse I hacked out on yesterday. I'm desperately trying to remind myself I have neither the time nor money for two horses, but...

Gosh what has he done?
Years ago my pony got a nasty kick on her hock on the day we bought her, kicked in the field. Took ages to heal but came right in the end, she did have a capped hock but nothing really bad.

Mine's a similar story - kicked in the field 6 weeks to the day after I bought him. Glad to hear yours recovered. How long was she on box rest/off work for? Any advice you can give me?
