I'm looking for recommendations.

Basically we haven't had a summer up here yet, it's basically been in the low teens with wind, rain then some bursts of sunshine but nothing warm. Normally a this time of year I vary between tshirts, baselayers, and if there's a shower expected I'll pop a softshell on. I need something more this year! I have some lovely Winter coats so absolutely fine for the cold weather but looking for a little hybrid jacket time thing for just now that I can wear in the yard and hack in. I really like the look of the Le Mieux Briyony Hybrid jacket but at that price it wouldn't be for the yard 😬 Any ideas of anything similar?

If you're wanting something reasonably waterproof that's lightweight and won't break the bank, I'd recommend a Shires Aubrion Hackney waterproof jacket (you can sometimes get a bargain if you can find one of last year's colours). I've ridden in some heavy showers in mine, and it's kept me dry so far. I don't think it would stand up to relentless heavy rain, but it's pretty good for showers. It's mid-thigh length with a zip at the back for when you're riding, so will keep your bum dry too. Mine has been worn a lot since I bought it a couple of years ago, and it's still going strong.

I'd have a look at Sports Direct: they have a good'ish selection of horsey stuff, and because they don't specifically parade under the "equestian" banner their stuff is better value.

Just purchased a pair of summer "air" riding chaps from them; an unbelievable £9. Didn't really look around to see what else they had tho'. Might be worth a look?

Thank you all, I’ve found quite a nice Horseware one on Sports direct.

I have the lined Equidry for throwing over in the Winter, I’m quite small and even in the xxsmall I find that I prefer something more fitted. It’s worth a thought though once the youngster gets out showing more, it’s probably ideal for going over show clothes.

I’m not sure which Equidry you have, but I’ve got both the mid-weight Equidry Evolution and the new Equidry Mac, and they both have a drawcord around the waist to make them a lot more fitting (I’m also an XXS, though I wish they did an XXXS with the same chest size as the largest kids one but with adult body and sleeve lengths). Even though it is lighter weight, I’d say the Mac is more spring/autumn weight than summer. Having said that, although I’ve not actually worn mine yet, it may well be tomorrow if the forecast of 12 degrees and torrential rain proves correct!

I walked before I started to ride and, if it rains in summer, I ride in my Berghaus Gortex summer walking anorak. Bought in 2009 but as good as new.

I wish you hadn’t posted this because I’d never heard of the Le Mieux Brioney so I looked it up and now I really want it…
I am a bit coat obsessed because I feel like you can wear anything and still look half decent if you top it off with a smart jacket.

I have one of these. I’m not sure it’s the most attractive in the world but it’s absolutely brilliant. Thin, light, very waterproof. Its my go to in heavy rain because I know I’ll be dry underneath. I’d love pockets to put hands in though. That’s my only gripe about it. Dog walking the pockets are awkward.

I think I may treat myself to one at Blair this year as it's the last ever event. Can't decide on the colour, really like the stone or the navy. Won't be for around the horses that's for sure!

Friend and I were just talking about this. Stone is lovely but for full livery owners!
It would have to be navy for me. I’d be having to wash it after the first wear otherwise!

I agree on the pockets, but it’s not such a deal breaker for me. I actually have two of them: one is for riding and sized to fit over my body protector and the other is two sizes smaller and used as my everyday summer waterproof.

ETA, I should have said that it’s the jacket I’m wearing in my avatar photo!

I have a premier equine lightweight jacket. It’s showerproof and warm enough for those chillier summer days and evenings, but without being too hot.
I think you can still buy them.
I find PE sizing a bit odd which makes me a bit nervous to buy. I had two in the same size and one was a bit too tight on my shoulders and the other I sold because it swamped me.
They are really nice though!

I have the Ariat Spectator coat. It's not designed for riding, but has the 2 way zip & a huge hood. I've ridden in mine & it's great for wet, but warm days. It's really light & definitely waterproof for a deluge.
