Jack is now the proud owner of a brand new Bates saddle, specially adapted to meet his disability needs :), it has extra knee rolls and padding behind the leg to keep him in a good position, also a higher back. It also had a flexible handle for the front (think donkey saddle handle but fluffy) We are off down the paddock later to try it out and see how he copes with it. Then a small show on Sunday to see if we can win another frilly. Will post pictures later, as you can tell I am quite excited :D

All I can say is fab fab fab, what a difference, he was able to ride confidently around the paddock with just a leader rather than someone holding onto him too, he sat lovely in it, unfortunately it does look massive on the pony due to all the extras added on but pony seemed quite comfy in it, will definitely take piccies at Sundays show, here's hoping its the start of good things to come :)

Oh gosh that is brilliant! Having a little sniffle here!!! Hope you have a brilliant time on Sunday and look forward to the pictures :)

Brilliant news :D Interesting to know about knee blocks. I went to a RDA training day (been a volly for almost four years) and person running it was quite anti extra stuff...

I agree, too much stuff would mean from a therapy point of view he wont have to work quite so hard, but the type of Cerebral palsy he has means he cannot control his muscle tone at all and is quite weak, so better that he gains confidence and strength slowly, the saddle has been designed as such that you can remove all the extras so as he improves we can turn it into a normal saddle for him, it also means his younger brother can ride in the same saddle keeping the costs down :)

Makes total sense - would love to see a pic :)

For the first time ever, Jack was able to ride Patch back to ours from the paddock which is nearly a mile completely unaided apart from Daddy leading, he is so very excited about showing off his skills tomorrow, Patch is now as clean as a grey can be and happily munching on his hay, but he also knows something is happening because he is excited too! I hope he is a good boy and looks after Jack which I'm sure he will,
cant wait to post pictures tomorrow, Jack isn't bothered about being placed he just told me he wants to be like all the other children :)
