OK so used the Malaseb on Jags head lastnight which ended up removing HUGE amounts of scabs... (and no ears!!

Here is my poor boys head now...

Should I put any cream on? (I think I should let it dry TBH!! - Not just from the water

(that has dried!!) - but because the wounds are still 'shiny' this morning)

*Please don't be nasty - Its so upsetting to see him like this anyway

I'm sure it won't take long now for the pink bald bits to start looking better. At least it is clean and not infected. Try not to worry too much hun.

Ewww .. poor boy.
I think I'd be inclined to clean them up daily but leave them open to the fresh air. When they have dried up a bit and aren't so weepy it might be worth using something like camerosa?

It was just one big scab for weeks and weeks so you couldn't 'penetrate' the surface to get any treatment 'in' it

[/ QUOTE ]No too keen on using camerosa as it keeps them 'wet' .. I don't want it to get too wet so don't want to wash everyday

It's a difficult one..

Hey hun, don't beat yourself up - it's a bacterial infection the same as mud fever so not your fault by any means!

I would say keep it dry even if it means keeping him in. The scabs coming off is a good sign even if it doesn't look pretty.

It does look pretty gruesome but I'm sure you're doing the right thing. Now the scabs are off I would leave it to dry too and just keep him out of the weather as much as possible. Chin up chick, it'll soon be better.

Glad he's survived the washing and is still in one piece

The new skin looks quite healthy, I think I'd be tempted to leave it alone for at least a week. Poor boy, that looks really sore

[/ QUOTE ]TBH you can touch it and it doesn't seem sore for him.. it's just the scabs that hurt him

Leave them clean and dry so the air can get to them is what I would do. As has already been said, the skin looks clean and healthy so should heal nicely.

[/ QUOTE ]Thankies... that is my plan... basically once they have all dried and there are no more scabs I will then start to apply Aloe Gel (or similar) to help the healing me thinks. x

Poor Jaguar, that looks sore. Hope he's feeling better soon, and I'm glad his ears are still on!

[/ QUOTE ]Thankies

- He's only sore where the scabs are rather than where the 'pink' skin is

Things like this always look worse than they are. Certainly not your fault, so don't beat yourself up over it. Seems like Jaggles is as High Maintenance as Patches is proving to be, one thing after another! Poor you.

I have some fab stuff here called M-T-G and I got it from America. It was fabulous when I used it on Talis's head as his infected ringworm scab started to heal. That was weepy too. It dried up and hair starting to grow in just a couple of days.

Not sure how quick it'd be to get some sent over (mine was sent as a Christmas present by relatives over there) but I can't tell you how valuable I find it for any small abrasion, scabby area etc. It's like an thin oil (smells a bit rubbery) and rubs in to leave the area dry.

Good luck with it. I do hope it quickly resolves.

I have Dermagel, which seems good. You can get it in a spray form (which I also have) too! Patches doesn't object to having dermagel anywhere but Dermoline Wound Cream and Protocon are a whole different matter. She hates them being applied. Weird girl!

Gold Label do a wonder skin something or other. I think that's an aloe vera based gel with some other hidden ingredients.

You're dead right too....worrisome as Patches is at times, I wouldn't change her for the world (well unless Kelly Marks offered to swap her for her horse Pie! lol)

Yeah, that's right a pump dispenser.

Got mine from www.petmeds.co.uk (I think that's the right url) which offers free next day delivery to the UK.

Not sure if the ingredients of the Gold Label are secret or not but I know they claim it's something a bit more "special" than us just using any old aloe vera stuff.

Wonder gel - it's fabulous stuff and I use it all the time for anything, mud fever, cuts, heat - sunburn. anything on both horses and humans. Actually i've used it on the cat too! I swear by it.

It is Aloe Vera and is very soothing and promotes healing.
