My vet advises that wound powder is really bad stuff, it clogs up wounds. Healing is best in a damp environment, hence how all these gels work so well.

[/ QUOTE ]Ah OK.. no wound powder then!!

The prob with the gels is that they will keep it moist which I DON'T want as makes the bacteria breed - I shall use a gel on ALL the scab have come off but now I think it will only create a 'breeding ground'

I'd try camrosa, especially after they have dried up, it is also water repellent so you would be able to turn out. You could email them the pictures and then they could advise you. They won't advise you too use it if they don't think it is appropriate. I emailed them and they were a great help.

Beano had a bit of rainscald when we first got him, after a while the hair came out in little 'plugs'. We tried to keep it dry (it was on his back) so he wore a rug, but we found Gold Label Wonder Gel was amazing for helping it heal. It is also supposed to help the hair grow back the same colour, although I don't know if there is any truth in that. I believe it can be catching, so don't share any brushes etc and be careful about your clothes, hands etc. It is going to be harder to keep his head out of the rain, you will have to make him a waterproof balaclava! The skin looks nice and healthy, it should be fine. Glad his ears are still on though!

There are certainly two schools of thought - keep it dry or apply a gel - deffo DONT wash (but you know that!) TBH try one, if that doesnt work go with the other, but Wonder Gel IS a fab product

[/ QUOTE ]Well I washed with medicated shampoo... last wednesday.. and that was the result (the scabs coming off) which was a defo good thing.. however not washed since... I don't want to apply gel til ALL the scabs are off because I don't want to create a 'breeding ground' again!!

So will maybe wash again on wednesday to get the remaining scabs off... He'll hate me!!

Sounds good to me - sorry what I meant was not to wash it daily and keep getting it wet

Oh my goodness me!!! Poor Jaggles and poor you hunny!!! HUGGLES!!!! I'm sure it looks a lot worse than it actually is, but anything on their heads is always more alarming - I think anyway!!

There are so many fab products out there to use for healing, it really is difficult to choose the one you want to use. The vets are now recommending Intrasite Gel - cheaper from the chemist/pharmacist though - it's a water based gel that draws any infection out of the wound site into itself. I've used it on a myriad of thigns from cuts, abrasions to operation sites that couldn't be stitched and it is WONDERFUL stuff!! However, the Wonder Gel is also good.

When those areas are no longer PINK and are a little calmer, it might be an idea to use some cornucresine on them for hair growth - it encourages it to grow back quicker.

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks chick... will certainly look into getting a gel now I think... as itis now drying - I want to wash with the shampoo again tonight just to make sure all scabs are off... then will start to help heal.

[/ QUOTE ]The pink bits are no longer pink.. however if a scab falls off under it it is.... it's looking so much better this week.. just hope by applying gel etc doesn't start it again
