Jake had his sidebone shoes put on today with a hoof trim.

OH took him due to my slipped disc, but apparently he was very well behaved and has 'spiral' shoes on both front feet.

They start of thinner on one side and get thicker as they go around to the other side (like a wedge). Apparently, they look pretty much like normal shoes. Jake also had 2 grooves put into his hoof just below the cononary band on his sore foot, just under the sore area to help with hoof flexibity in the absence of his cartilage which is now bony. He will have these grooves redone every 6 months.

Isn't it amazing what they can do nowadays? I am totally fascinated.

Now it is a question of waiting and seeing if this helps, all fingers and toes and limbs are crossed.

Fingers crossed for you & hope you're feeling better soon

They sound really interesting, would it be possible for you to post some piccies of them at some point? I'd be really keen to see them! My retired gelding has had really impressive sidebones since i bought him aged 9 and thankfully they never caused him a problem whilst he was competing. He only began to have problems with them later in life!

Good luck and i hope your boy continues to do well with his new shoes. Look forward to hearing about his progress!

Thank you Scotsmare, back is improving slowly thanks.

Benjis girl, Sorry to hear about your horse, he has done well to have had then since he was 9 and be able to compete.

I will try to get some pictures for you, if I can get both feet photographed it should be possible to see the difference I think. Also, the shoes are a bit longer than normal, to support the heels.

I found this site very helpful.
