I got my new horse back in December. He is 5, IDxWb, 17hh and knows it!
He was bought as a project from the field, seller explained he is bolshy on the ground and that proved to be true. The early days were spent doing ground work and he dragged me around a fair bit going to and from the field...this has improved dramatically with the help of patience, persistence, routine and a rope halter.

We then started lunging and this is where he started to scare me a bit! im not fab at lunging anyway, and his bucks towards me and turning in with purpose was doing nothing for my blood pressure. He's very strong and knows his size and has learnt he is stronger then humans. however, this also improved with time.....and James Hart V-Calm! I'm now on board and we have hacked once. (he was professionally backed over a year ago but I have taken my time instilling some manners, restarting him).

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has used V-Calm with good effect? I'm really impressed with it! The first time I used it as a test dose he looked stoned! I then began giving him 20mls before lunging, I have reduced this to 10mls, but give 20mls when riding. It def seems to take the edge off and has helped me become more confident with him :) The effect seems to becoming less dramatic each time though, and I'm aware I probably shouldn't rely on it as a long term solution.

I gave him 30mls to be clipped and he was a lamb! (not the usual description of him).

I am slightly worried about weening us both off it now....I feel slightly reliant on it psychologically!!

Would love to hear other peoples experiences of using it!

I used it with great success for my mare who was a nightmare to travel. This really chilled her out and each time I took her out in the box, I gave her less and less until she was cool with the situation and didn't need it anymore. It's great stuff :-)
