It was very wet here last night and very, very windy here this morning. Hopefully easing off by lunch.

I have a lesson tomorrow and then dressage to music competition on Sunday.
Looks a bit wet for us that day unfortunately so we'll be warming up in waterproofs.

Was planning on hacking today but that idea has blown away with the wind. I hack up to 40mph winds but it is stronger. The horses are great but there is stuff flying around and small branches falling.

Tomorrow we have a jumping clinic. It is an hour away but then indoors, plus I think it is due to blow itself out later today, so we should be fine for that.

Sunday I have a wellness and yoga evening. Thinking calm thoughts

Farrier today and I didn't get time to ride around him so expecting the hooligan cob to be a bit fresh tomorrow. He will need to do something as I have a pole / jump clinic on Sunday at a local venue. Same venue where I came off twice last weekend so let's hope we don't repeat that! Never been to a clinic with this instructor before so hoping he isn't too much of a hooligan.

We've been practicing one of the e-riders prelim tests and I was really happy with him on Wed but the field is slippery and the camera man wants to play golf tomorrow so i don't think we'll be entering this month.

The 2 mares need to do something after being fat shamed by the vet too.

Plans depend entirely on how easy it is to get to the yard. We’re on the edge of the red weather warning today, and there are trees down all around. Plus, the yard is in the middle of a forest.

I’m hoping to have a short lesson on Saturday and a schooling session to practice an intro dressage test on Sunday. All entirely weather and access dependent.

All calm here today, so I went to the Parkrun, which was icy and slippery, and our jump clinic which was not.

Very same old same old, but it is another jump experience for him and for me too.

No horse plans for me this weekend as swapped days around at work to go to a training thing yesterday (wasn't worth it tbh, but timed well as I'm not sure I would have been up for riding yesterday). I have missed the horse time though!

Eta - ooh one thing I'm going to do is sit down with the list of Horse Event UA eventing dates and my calendar to see which ones I might be able to volunteer at.

Already done I'm booked in for Oxstalls and waiting for Barbury to get back to me. I haven't ventured beyond dressage writing yet but might have a go a fence judging this season.

 

[Accidental Eventer]

I rode Henry yesterday for the first time in a month. He was desperate to come with me, and I couldn’t think of a reason not to, as he’s looking very well. So he did his pole work ridden and then went for a short hack around the creek.

Coolie and I went out for a hack today and tomorrow we are going riding with friends!

Not doing anything with my horse as too busy responding to crazy season on HHO. Stuff the horse when you can be replying to ridiculous comments. I won’t get a rosette at the end of it but it certainly stops me from getting bored.

More of a constructive weekend than I was expecting. Filmed my e-riders prelim yesterday and it was "ok". Most of the trot work was nice although he came above the contact on a couple of slippy corners and we pretty much got canter on X. Had to run into it a bit but it wasn't bad when we got it. We'll lose marks for breaking into trot early on one rein but he'd slipped a bit so just needed rebalancing. Onwards and upwards now hopefully.

Clinic today he left his halo at home. Poor instructor had never met the hooligan before and he came in and promptly exploded. I was furious so he got a lot of trotting and then a lot of cantering. Needs to go back on my homemade gut supplement.

Pectin & lecithin for the slimy stuff that coats any sore bits. Mint, marjoram, marshmallow, fenugreek for being a bit gassy.

VV High Profile today. Rooni has been a grade a pita about being caught recently, so he felt a bit tired considering he’s done 2 hours of galloping the past 2 days…

Very good calm and sensible boy though 66%+ psg 65%+ inter 1.




Just not enough power for higher marks but he was great.

Good lesson yesterday, I feel like we are making progress with the holes I could feel- mainly not in front of the leg and then default when he does respond to the leg is to go flat and fast and 'pop' out of the contact.
Not super visible usually but causing issues as we move into changes and pirouettes etc, as I end up spinning 15 plates! He needs to take more ownership of his way of going!
So good lesson, me stop fiddling and micro managing and him to actually use his bum as he is more than capable of sitting on it and directing his energy UP if he wants!

So today to run through our freestyle at BRC.
I have changed the music and the floorplan and really wanted a run through before Regionals next month.
Very pleased with over 70% from a List 1 judge who has competed to GP herself.
A few tweaks needed to hit the music better on a transition or 2 but really pleased with his way of going and felt he.gave me exactly what he can do at home.

I’ve had a surprisingly good weekend, considering we lost power in the storm on Friday afternoon and only got it back earlier today.

I rode on Saturday for the first time since my fall the previous Saturday. Had a really good lesson, mainly working on my position in the saddle as I’m still struggling with some stiffness through my back. Did some good work on his flexibility too, and it certainly felt great to be back riding.

Today, I managed to do some schooling, although not as much as I’d hoped because the ground was only half defrosted. Mostly consolidated what we’d done yesterday, and got some lovely trot out of him.

Overall, I’m very pleased with how we did. I also looked at a couple of livery yards, as I’m thinking about moving him. One wasn’t great, but the other was lovely, so hopefully I’ll be able to move there soon. It’s closer to home and has better facilities.
