Took Willough to do the Novice.

The course was bang up to height, all the oxers very square and a very technical course with lots of tricky related distances, eg 2 jumps round corners on curving lines, both to skinnys where you had to go on a square 4 strides or a more direct 3 strides.

Quite a few opportunities in the course to take a risk and save time too.

Willough was a good girl, got 2 down, I Bee's fault where she pushed 2 late at the XC start and made her flatten, the other, she just seemed to leave a leg at the very skinny wall. Had a couple of time faults and an 18 style (top end of middle).
Willough had a perfect 6 for Outlook and demeanour, so pleased with that.

They finished up about the middle of the section in some very serious company, quite a few of the lesser known pros and many with british flags on their hats.

Yet again all the fantastic style marks went to those with the flags and the right surname. Eg why should someone get a 10, having had 3 fences down, taken 2 bad lines and had a couple of iffy jumps?

Yogi and Sarah Verney were judging and it was good to get some good directive and to the point comments rather than the usual 'well tried'

Before we went I said I would be pleased to finish anywhere in the middle, having seen the entry list.

Sounds like a great result in the company

well done, sounds like you did well considering the company, its a good day out i did it last year, qualified this year but decided not to go for the reasons you have mentioned. What Constructive comments did you get?

Comments were good, Yogi picked up on the fact that Bee's left leg can sometimes swing, altering her balance, now I know that happens but it's the first time that someone has noticed that at JAS.

Judges loved the pony though, in fact they seemed to like ponies especially at the higher levels, the ponies all seemed to look really happy and pingy, I guess the tight indoor courses suit them.

The whole comments section was actually filled out, with writing all the way down the box.

What I find quite ironic is the fact that the winners get a huge amount of training vouchers, if they are already that good they don't need the training!

So the good get even better and us paupers will always be propping them up.

Having said that Althea did deserve to win!

Welldone, sounds like a really good day, and good to get some constructive help from it - I love seeing the 14.2s taking on the horses and beating them!

Does Althea *really* need more training?!

Especially as she was 'bred' for the job, just like WFP. With on site trainers (mother) at home.

Little Alfie Bradstock is one to watch, he is tiny and looks so at home on his pony, again bred for it, father is a racehorse trainer and grandfather is an Oaksey.

Alfies pony has the very unfortunate name of 'Droopys Babe!'

Well done, I know what you mean about the scoring, I did the 2 nearest me this year, just for the indoor arena practise, I dont think it really serves a purpose for anything else. I qualified a few years ago for the final, but decided it would be an expense trip for some indoor jumping!!
