Thinking of sending my youngster to jason to back. Searching on here for people's experiences and mainly it is totally positive, but found a couple of people saying they'd recently heard some negative things, but not saying what it was. Anyone had any negative experiences, or even something that was slightly negative but overlooked at everything else was fab (apart from price tag!). Pm if you prefer

I have a couple in at the moment who were going to go to Jason, owner choose me instead as I was happy for them to visit at the weekends and watch their horses work, which apparently Jason was not. That's the only negative thing i have heard about him though, every other report seems to be glowing! If you decide not to go for him the I can also highly rate Karl Standing in Sussex, he has done a few of my own youngsters when I have been short on time to do them myself!

I think Jason would only not recommend going there at weekends as they don't work the horses weekends! So the only staff there are the grooms. Nothing sinister.

In my experience, Jason is happy for people to view their horses being backed and worked and works with the rider too before the horse goes home. They have regular open mornings so perhaps go and have a look first to decide..? I have only heard positive things but I guess you can't please everyone :)

I've used Jason for my horse as he was recommended by my vet and my trainer, I've worked in the horse industry and am probably the worst client to have as I am so fussy but I was really impressed hence this post! Jason only charges £275 for behaviour training and starting which compared to other behaviourist that's actually cheap, lets face it we are asking them to do a dangerous job and he is now one of the leading experts in his field, I saw him at Your Horse Live this year with a spooking horse, so many solutions! From my work I know there are a lot of horses that get messed up in the wrong hands...my Mother said something when we went to view the yard for the first time and I was weighing up the costs which I thought was very true, "you only get one chance to make a first impression" and it stuck with me, if you get your horse started well they have that for the rest of their lives, if it is messed up you have that for the rest of their lives! Infact I saved money as my horse was sent home a week early and he was much further along in his training than I had expected. I plan to send him back next year when I'm on holiday and the general schooling livery is just £195.. which when you think most livery yards charge £120-£145 for just livery and he's VAT registered (dam the tax man!) he's not charging a lot for the types of horses he is sent. I was also very impressed with the service, the feed is top quality unlike other yards on nuts, sugerbeet and chaff and he has super staff, the facilities were great, they are kitted out for the job as it were. My horse had daily grooming and I really liked the fact my horse had the same groom for the duration of his stay, she even pointed out some things I'd never noticed! The manager Sarah has been with him for years too and is very knowledgeable on both the training of horses and horse care, she's been there and done it and that's priceless really, it's so nice to speak to someone in the industry who really cares about their work and knows what they are talking about too! As the other post has said the weekends are the horses rest days as that's when Jason competes (he's the England Captain in polocross I think) but I work full-time and they gave me early or late slots to watch my horse and for my handover so it really wasn't a problem. I couldn't fault the yard...everything was top class. I can highly recommend and my friends have since sent there horses and said the same. I think if you are looking to send your horse for training with a leading horse behaviour person whose is as hands on as Jason is and you really want them to have good feed and the best care and you want to peace of mind that they will handle their quirky moments and progress well then thats your yard! Best of luck with your horse and I hope my post is helpful! x

A friend of mine took her horse to jason to be started earlier in the year & she cannot paise them enough. She visited him while he was there, weekends & Bank holidays horses have off. Jason worked with her on the handover and said he will always test her and she didnt get on to well the first day so the next day he put her on his mare and he rode her horse in the school to give her some confidence then they swapped.
We saw jason at Your Horse Live and she showed them a pic of her riding him recently and he was really impressed with how they were getting on. For a horse that was only started 2-3 months he is working really well and calmley.

They even gave him a "birthday cake" while he was there and sent pics of his with his cake to his owner because she couldnt get to see him on his birthday. I thought that was a really nice touch that they didnt have to do.

If i had a horse to be started i would send it to them.

I sent a pony there in January, and I couldn't have been happier with the results. She had general schooling and learnt to load ( she was a chronically awful loader...we even had to leave her at polo on more than one occasion....!) Jason is an amazing horseman, and his team were lovely. He updated me on the phone as to her progress and I went down to watch her being worked.

I've actually got another little mare booked in there for a month in January, for general schooling and groundwork, I'd wholeheartedly trust Jason and Tom and their team - they really looked after Mouse ( and are always there on the end of the phone if we need advice!)

Oooh my lad will be there in January (well 31st Dec actually)

I went to the yard today and it is full of very happy & relaxed horses. Wonderful facilities and lovely people. They are VERY local to me too which is lovely.

Yes I did write an essay didn't I, sorry if I went on I'm new to this, I was just really impressed by them all and I don't mind if it looks like an advert they deserve it!! :)

Jason backed my WB, great service all the staff are very accommodating to individual needs. Infact my boy went back (lived out) while I went on holiday for peace of mind so I could fully relax in the knowledge he was being looked after properly. Jason gives you the opportunity to hack, school, jump, gallop across the open fields & pop over some mini xc fences before you leave with your broken horse. If you are interested then speak with Sarah and go on a tour of the yard yourself and make up your own mind. The horse world is full of many opinions and what works for one person may not work for another!

I sent a horse to Jason for remedial training and found him to be excellent in every way, no complaints at all. Had previously sent a different horse to another experienced horse "breaker" in Sussex who was rubbish, really wish I'd known of Jason then! Was well worth the cost.
