Hi all!
I’ve got to my horses this morning to see that my mare has huge swelling around her jaw! Yesterday her grass glands were up slightly, as were another one of the ponies. But they’re on a short grass field and haven’t had any extra fresh grass for a few days… yet today her jaw has gone bigger than I’ve ever seen grass glands go!
I’ve attached a picture for you to see what you think… I was thinking of giving her some antihistamines but unsure if it’s something worse to worry about…!

Thank you!

I've had this with my mare the last few years. Sometimes even after being in overnight they haven't gone down, or not completely. Some horses just seem more susceptible. It also happened in what we'd class as winter too.

Looks like Grass Mumps to me, always known them as Grass Mumps since 1970's

Now they sometimes get called grass glands but originally call grass mumps

On Google

Yes, it's a real thing — poorly explained in most veterinary literature, and rather mysterious in cause, grass mumps are
swellings of the parotid gland, located below the ear and behind the cheek, Generally, removing the horse from the triggering grass is enough for grass mumps to clear up on their own within a day or two; some advise giving antihistamin

Read this post!! Excuse the eyebrow! It's not a fashion statement, it was a slip in the lorry that caused it! https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/...to-a-hamster.811297/#lg=post-14747985&slide=3
