I am needing groundwork done and am wondering the best way to go about things.

get someone in the do the lot/hire digger and dumper then employ workers/find someone who owns their own digger ???

what are your experiences/time scales and what sort of prices will i be looking at?

(the site in the field that the planners have insisted on is on a bit of a slope :( )

thanks

What are you trying to do exactly build a yard/drain a field???

Farmer with this would usually work out less especially if materials have to be moved in as they usually have large trailers too and are good at inaccessible places etc

Hire a digger yourself will be cheap but you will save time if you have someone that knows how to operate it. Otherwise it will end up not being efficient.

You can hire diggers with drivers too...but get them to quote you for the work ie how long as most will charge a daily rate.

Get some estimates/quotes.

thank you.
we need to scrape the stable site and yard area proir to putting footings in.

rough estimates so far
A. 2 diggers and 2 dumpers,4 men =4 days

Bi digger &1 dumper and 2 men =4 weeks

If you can find a helpful farmer as they can often lose any surplus soil in a field somewhere etc and usually work out cheaper but as we are coming up to harvest it may be bad timing.

I suppose just get it costed out for each way.

I have someone who can drive a digger so it works out really reasonable to just hire and pay driver a daily rate ie (£150 daily rate labour cost + cost of digger hire).

Most hire companies will have people who wil drive a digger etc for you.

Goodluck though.

luckily, we can lose the spoil on our land.
our last project was straightforward ,this one is a bit of a challenge
am wanting to flatten about 1/5 of an acre and some of that needs to be chopped into the hillside.

should have some estimates by the weekend, just wondered what sort of prices people have had to pay for this kind of work or for menages etc ?
