Jealous horse

Hello all. I am a newbie to the forum so appologies if I post in the wrong subject: . I have recently purchased my 3rd horse. He is a youngster and it appears that he may be jealous of my husband!!! When hubby is around him his ears go back and his temperament changes. He swings his bum to hubby but would never kick out although, he has nipped him twice now. I know that a lot of horses are jealous of others but have never known of it with a human, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this behaviour?

yes after my accident on diamonds son i was very cold towards him doing the least to him not stroking treats petting cuddling he got very jealous . hes fine now but at the time .

Also could be he doesn't like men

MY first mare was scared of men due to coming from the markets rough handling

My mare used to be really jealous of my little boy because he would take my attention away from her. I used to have to keep him away from her as she can be a really moody mare at the best of times but with him she had ears flat back and sometimes lunge at him over the stable door (he was never close enough to get). After a summer out in the field so she is more chilled anyway and him growing bigger and giving her attention she now almost likes him

I can see this My mare gets jealous and will do almost anything to get my attention away from whoever i may be talking to, be it horse/human/dog etc. I love it cos it makes me laugh I dont see it as bad manners cos im a pretty jealous person too!

I dont know if theres much you can do to get him over it though im afraid? I dont know i havent tried with lex, but i wouldnt want her to change

Hey fellow newbie! Might not be jealousy but your youngster could dislike men. My horse can't stand to be ridden by men and he will fight and spin like crazyand I've notcied quite a few horses are the same or some animals take a general disliking to some people

A horse I had years ago was like that, stabled in an American barn and OH at the time used to tell me that Star would put his ears back and stamp his feet at him. Sweetest horse and I thought it was rubbish - until I walked round the corner and caught him. Star's face as he clocked me was priceless, teeth put away, ears slowly rotated forward and head hung in shame!!

haha shame you didn't get that on film that could have earn t £ 250 on you been framed as well as been priceless to see on here .

I did something similar to our dog i went round the back of a stable block ( i was creosoting) and when i came back through the other way i pulled my overall over my head walk up yard George our Northern Inuit dog came charging at be barking and growling.. when i pulled hoodie off you should have seen his face lol i was in stitches at
