Jeep Cherokee owners. Help needed with 4x4 mode

I need a bit of advice with regards to what mode I should be driving in. Can i drive in full time even if there has been a small amount of snow, or i think there is ice about? Ive had the manual out and im finding it confusing.

Please can anyone help
 
I just drive mine in 2WD unless it cant cope with that.. i.e when it was really snowy and cars were getting stuck going up our hill I would wack it in 4WD and then when I got to the gritted main road I would put it back in 2WD.
I chop and change if need be. If you keep it in 4WD all the time it really uses up the fuel ive noticed!!

I put mine into 4H (part time)if there is a light covering of snow/ice. If I feel it slipping then I will put it into 4L until the conditions have improved a bit. I love my Jeep! :-)
 
I put it in 4WD Part time if say its just a bit snowy and icy, however if its quite bad (untreated country lanes) or im going up a hill I put it in 4WD Full time. I havent used 4WDLo yet as I was told thats for towing in terrible conditions (cant go faster than 25mph in Lo) but with the 2 feet of snow expected in Hants tonight I may have to use it to get to the yard!!

I love my Jeep too, arent they great! I live up a track into the woods and I love wacking it in 4WD and flying over all the mud and bumbs lol!
 
crikey - am going back to read my manual... when I put mine into 4WD thought I could not go ove 25mph... note to self.. must read more carefully


although in fairness to myself... if I need 4WD then I am not going to be going fast anyway!
 
Argh..... Ok... so in part time, can I drive at say 30-40mph ? If there is a small amount of snow on the road, or should I be in Full time. Am i right in thinking I can do any speed in Full Time.

You can do any speed in full time 4wd. I have a Cherokee and have had it in full time 4wd for the last 2 weeks. There is no speed restriction, really you should use full time 4wd for ice/snow and part time for very slippy surfaces as it can cause the diff to wind up.

4wd lo should only be used if it's really desperate and is the only mode where you have to watch your speed, this is for getting you out of deep mud etc only, not for road use.
