I tried a Jeffries GP saddle on my horse today and it fitted nicely, she went lovely in it and I found it comfortable too, its just what I am looking for. However Jeffries saddles are not the cheapest so I was wondering if there was either:
A) A cheaper place to buy them from or..
B) If there is a make of saddle that has the same type of measurements/fit as a Jeffries?

We all have jeffries in my family but our saddler told us the other day that barnsby had a similar fit in terms of length of flaps and girth straps. I suppose it depends on which saddle you were looking at.

Have you tried looking for a second hand one? Ebay, local paper etc?

Ebay is extortionate

And unfortunately I am on the Isle of Man, the chances of people selling the exact name/make of saddle that you need is near on impossible.
Do you recon that Barnsby would have the same type of gullet measurements?

You get what you pay for!

I have the Jeffries Stamford WH saddle and love it, it is the most comfy showing saddle I have tried. I also only use Jeffries bridles for showing and they are lovely!

Not sure Damnation. We have an 'old school' saddler who we turn to for advise (he is in his 60's and his grandfather trained him to be a saddler).

I personally would never buy a saddle without advice and professional fitting.

Have a look on the master saddlers website. There is a list of the registered saddlers.

A while ago, I couldn't get hold of our saddler and I called a guy in Lancashire for advice. I found his name and number on there. They were a long established firm too. IMO the old school ones are better.

You get great bargains on Ebay and they can all be posted !!

Kal40 - On the Isle of Man we have one master saddler. I don't trust her as she fitted a saddle so badly for my horse it ended up having to be sold, right after my horse threw me off because of the saddle..

We have a visiting Saddler from Albion but I really can't afford £1k+ for a new saddle

Myself and a couple of people on the yard have looked at the Jeffries saddle and it fits her like a glove, sits lovely on her, doesn't bounce or anything and it was so comfortable for me to ride in!
Her current saddle is an Ideal Dressage Saddle. I bought it off ebay for £250 after trying an Ideal on her, had no problems. Trust me, she would let me know if the saddle didn't fit, like she did last time when she threw me off into a wall

Swellhillcottage - I have looked on EBay and the saddles are either 1 too expensive or 2 not the right size

And I was referring to people selling saddles in my local newspaper when I said "And unfortunately I am on the Isle of Man, the chances of people selling the exact name/make of saddle that you need is near on impossible."
Sorry, I should of made it clearer

What size/model and what do you want to pay, maybe someone on here knows of one?

Was it a brand new saddle you tried on that fitted? I suppose one problem of buying second hand is that it has probably been re-flocked at some point and may not be the exact same fit as the one you tried. Do you have someone who can change the flocking to suit your horse?

I have an old Jeffries GP as a 'spare' saddle - my pony is difficult to fit but this fits him (with a bit of padding out) - I think the Jeffries trees suit a lot of horses, I will keep this saddle as it will no doubt come in useful one day.

I used to have a Jeffries WH but sold it as it was too tight and I needed more support - it was a lovely saddle and well made, if you do end buying a new one it would be money well spent.

I will look on Ebay for a Jeffries Hawk Event.
It was pretty much a new saddle that I have tried on my mare. I might see if the owner will part with it since she didn't like the saddle and bought a new GP saddle at xmas

Barely been used, still in lovely condition. Dread to think how much she would want for it though
