Jennifer Saunders, anyone been watching??

If JS was riding my old horse she def wouldnt have made it past the first jump!!!

But look at her comments when she had finished "it's so nice to be able to ride a horse that wants to jump!" Makes a big difference to the enjoyment factor of it!

only an observation for those who say it takes years to get to that level of horse riding ! do you remember the "faking it" episode where the nightclub dancer (was it cage/pole dancing -cant remember) had something like a month or couple of weeks to jump a sj round having never sat on a horse before ! Good horse definately helped and her natural balance/fitness but she did it really really well.

Yes I remember that programme, Tim Stockdale was training her

Well done Angus what a saint of a horse and so glad JS acknowledged the fact that the horse made her experience a happy 1. Had a good chuckle at comments made by Peter Charles...loved it. Am led to believe that in other countries like Germany riders from all disciplines are happy to mix and learn from each other, pity it's not the same in Britain where there seems a complete divide between the perma tanned, bling camp and pearl earinged, Dubarry boots brigade!

LOL yes I cringed at that too! :D Almost sounds like those celeb kids that get embarrassed turning up to school in a Bentley. Just drop me at the end of the road Dad!

No that was not me :D

Hmmm im afraid this was me and im not a toff :(
I hated being taken to school in the bentley, but dad worked bloody hard all his life for it

However me myself, im working 2 jobs to just to keep my bills apis and my little driving piny going

Overall I really enjoyed the 2 programmes, although I was very slightly disappointed with last night's episode compared to the first. The hat she wore for the dressage test was definitely not up to BE standards..... and can you have your test called for Eventers Challenges? (not sure, I only know eventing rules). I'm being picky here though and I did enjoy the programmes and her enthusiasm for it all. Well done to her (and Jack)!

My sentiments exactly! Really enjoyed the first episode, last night's less so. Felt Jennifer should have been shown to be getting some riding in rather than watching professional riders! Really disappointed to see her wearing that hat for the dressage. I actually thought Jennifer was great and really warmed to her immediately. Programme could have been much better!

Jesus, it was not a programme made for riders, it was a general interest programme!

She wore a Patey for dressage....wow, so what.

She didn't show herself riding so much...and?

People had well spoken accents...so? Jeez, I wish a good majority of this country took pride in how they speak...

Jennifer proved that with a little determination, a good handful of guts and a desire to not go back on her word she could perform in the arena....a useful lesson to many procrastinators out there IMO!

we starred in the first episode! wooooooo :D

Exactly! Good on her for doing it, it's certainly given me more motivation to just get out there and do it :)

Well said!

And as for embarrassment re cars and school, I cringed as I was the only child in my schools that was taken to school in the same car from the age of 4 until 18! Dad had a bright orange Ford Capri ( I loved the car but not the colour:)) oh the shame of all my school years being seen in the same car, but by 6th form all the lads were envious they wanted my dads car;)

I am fed up of hearing people moaning about the show! Can't people just enjoy it for what it was? Good entertainment, watching someone who is well-known and liked link herself to her childhood love, and be human with it?!? Do people really expect those at the top-end of their game to be saints?? I don't give a stuff if the Sj'ers don't link themselves to those in other disciplines, who cares?? Maybe they are determined to get the point across that no, you DON'T need pots of money to be successful, and that they want people to know they started from humble beginnings, their guts and determination got them to where they are today.

JS's comments were human, and I bet LOADS of people could relate to just how she was feeling when about to enter the arenas to compete.

Too many whiners in this world, and it gets on my wick at times....

Exactly this - well said Weezy! :D

Come on peeps - this was a programme about horse riding on mainstream TV at 9pm in the evening - be grateful our sport is getting some publicity!:rolleyes:

Need a *Like* button here ;)

I really liked the program. I thought it was fun, so shoot me. :)

As for all the fussing about how it didn't show how difficult it is blah blah blah, this is becoming a bug bear of mine - horsey people are always moaning about how expensive and time consuming and dangerous and occasionally heartbreaking it is. . .why the hell would anyone want to do it?!??? For some reason a sector of the community seems to want a medal for their suffering! ;) If it's such a drain, take up tiddlywinks.

Why not tell people WHY you ride and have horses? What's fun about it? Why it captivates you? Sorry, but I've had a lot of fun in horses over the years! Why is it wrong for JS to want to give people a taste of that?

As to horses not being about money. . .really?? I'll agree, it's relatively cheap and easy to ride here, so lots of people can afford to do it even on quite modest wages but the sport runs on money. I realise that class, accents etc are real hot button issues here but let's face it, there would be no Badminton Grass Roots without Badminton House!

Plus, it's television. Who wants to watch people muck out for an hour? ;)

Honestly, you can't win. People want the sport publicised (why, I'm not quite sure) but no matter what tack it takes, it's never the right one. Be happy someone is on television riding a horse and having fun!

Overall I'm glad it was on but I did feel it could have shown a bit more hard work, and a few things were included that seemed rather unhelpful like peter charles' comment, and the tim stockdale comment about eventing is a hobby - what that needed was some explanation as as a bald statement its rather misleading if you don't explain teaching and producing as methods of income earning. Also since when can you live off the prize money in dressage ?! I'm glad it was on, just think it could have been a bit better!

Jennifer Saunders is a blooming legend to have done that. On camera, too. I'd have been sick several times before going into ring. And I really want that horse, Jack. He is such a star.
Thought the programme was sweet, interesting and well crafted for a general audience.

I thought it was great. I'm not really into dressage at all but the stand out part for me was when it showed how good a rider Laura B is....the bit where she got on Jack. Even better was Jennifer's commentary whilst it was going on.

Im not sure if it has been said on here, i havent read all posts but does anyone else think lauren shannon made a complete tit of herself? Im pretty sure although she has had some ok results at a higher level that she was never in contention to be selected for the olympic team! I thought she came across as thinking very highly of herself where as piggy french, who we all know is fantasic was very humble and didnt big herself up!!

Just FYI, the reason she could have the dressage called was because it wasn't actually part of the eventers challenge - that was purely just her doing a dressage test hence the Patey and caller!

I think there does become a time when we have to accept riding being seen as an elitist sport. All you hear about is how expensive it as and let's be honest the majority, (I'm not saying all) of riders have money behind them, so I can understand the viewpoint entirely. OK, you still have to be able to ride but when you've got money behind you it opens up a whole new world in terms of horses available, training available, the sort of competitions you are able to go to etc.

I though JS was quite amusing to watch, her commentary on LB riding Jack was fantastic and I think it made nicely for a bit of light watching :)

Agree with weezy & tarrsteps, its only entertainment. And even my non horsey boyfriend, who's knowledge is limited to patting/feeding them like over sized dogs, noticed the fences js did were a lot smaller than Olympic or racing stuff so not sure it did make it look easy.
As for peter Charles comment, I think a lot of older non horsey people think that anyway. My boyfriends mum & other people of that generation who grew up non horsey in town/city housing estates nearly all remember the days of Harvey smith etc & sj being a sport the working classes could do with the right skills & determination, back in the day it was popular in black & white on tv. Whereas dressage & racing are thought of as 'toff' sports.
