Sooooo.... we had our first day out hunting with the Tynedale today and has been an up and down sort of day.
The tack was cleaned to perfection and Jenny groomed to a gleam. Popped her on the lorry and then loaded up her pal... to hear an ominous bang as he stepped off the ramp :-@
On inspection the ramp had broken clean off its hinge on one side and the pin it rotates on badly bent :-o
So queue horses carefully unloaded again...
Then loaded back onto friends lorry and a mad scramble to move all the equipment over and set off half an hour late :-/
Managed to still get to the meet on time and were given a decent measure of port.... which on my empty stomach went down well LOL....
I'm not quite sure what I was expecting... the last time I went cubbing it was lots of standing around and not a lot of "action".... this was galloping and jumping from the start! :-@
Jenny was a little star though. I was worried mostly about her being impatient standing around but in the times when we did stand around she stood like a sentry horse and never budged or even fidgited. When we were galloping I had virtually no control at all but she did pull up when the others did so I figured it was easier just to let her go and so long as she stopped not to worry too much in between :-o
I didn't jump much as the ground was boggen but she would have jumped everything given half a chance... she also went straight through a stream and as a SJer she generally doesn't like getting her feet wet LOL so that was very brave for her. She also went through fields of cattle that were inquisitive and came very close which would normally terrify her but she coped no bother if she was stood next to my friends horse.... normally at home she sticks her ears back at him and pulls faces at him but apparently today he was the love of her life and she was looking for him constantly if we were split up.
We stayed out for about 2.5 hours and then hacked back to the lorry....
Had a great day out though... seemed a lot more like normal hunting than cubbing to me though... although its been such a long time since I've been that perhaps I'm just not remembering what its truly like! A trail had been set for the hounds to follow so think it was more like a mini-hunt today to give us all a taster... Will be looking forward to the next one now!
Have now got home and starting to come down from the buzz with the reality of what its going to cost to get the lorry ramp fixed :-@ but even that is not spoiling a great day!
