Picked Jerry up today, they have scanned and scoped everything again, including his stomach, xrayed his abdomen and done a lameness workup (as he was very unbalanced and wobbly)

The conclusion is:

There are no stones, tumours in either of the Kidneys or in the bladder. The stomach is fine, and the xray didn't show any abnormalities. He is 100% sound although uncomfortable in canter, but from his abdomen not lameness.

The vet did however find some hemmoraging from the right kidney into the bladder, which suggest something like an infection (which would explain the cystis) She said the next step was to preform an exploratory operation to see what was going on (as there are some very nasty things that could be wrong and some quite simple things) but the risk involved was quite high, and she is not ready to do this yet.

So, she has sent him home, with instructions to hack him in walk and trot for a month and then build up harder work. According to her, he should slowly improve if it was just a simple infection, and stay the same, get worse if it is something more sinister, so only time will tell.

So I am taking the view that it is good news, as at least they didn't find anything like a tumour. She did seem very positive, and also thought the reaction to someone touching his side was half pain related half 'get off me Ive had enough' so hopefully over the next month that will lesson.

Fingers crossed please that he is over the worst of it and on the mend, I am so looking forward to taking him out again. Thanks so much for all your support through this, has meant a lot to me

And then on the way home ended up having to take mum into A&E as she had really bad chest pains, they have kept her in over night, but think they are just being cautious. Ankle isn't too bad, think it was just a common sprain, on a very wonky leg, and doesn't seem to be getting worse with exercise so I am ignoring it

OMG what a bad time you are having at the moment ... hope Jerry does improve and doesn't need an op, at least you've ruled out some of the things that could have been wrong. And hope mum is ok too.
((hugs)) sounds like you need them today.

I hope Jerry is on the up now and that he improves. Im glad its nothing serious that has been found. Also hope your mum is ok and am glad your ankle is getting better.
What a crap time you have had! Fingers crossed it'll only get better now! x

It definitely sounds like good news for Jerry. Fingers crossed he will start to show some improvement now - you really need some good luck - its about time you had some. Hope your mum is ok.

I hope you start to feel a bit better in yourself now, especially now that Jerry is home and there is every possibility he will be fine. You have had such a time of it, don't forget to look after yourself. Get well soon to your Mum too!

Fingers crossed Jerry improves and he doesn't have to have an operation. Also hope your Mum is soon back home again, and your ankle improves (Been computerless for a week so bit out of the loop as to what you did to it!) . xx

My fingers are tightly crossed for you MH that this is now a turning point and things will start to improve for you. Keep us posted on Jerry.xx

I've been searching and searching for this post. Sounds like very good news to me, hope the slow and gentle introduction back to ridden life goes well for Jerry and I hope your mum gets let out at a reasonable hour to.

Never dull in your world is it
