Just wanting to freshen up my stable and either looking for something that can be sprinkled/sprayed on to the bed or under the bed. Have just found Jeyes wheelie bin freshener which says it is animal safe but just wanted to see if there was anything better than this. My horse is quite dirty which makes him a bit stinky so just wanting to get rid of the odour and freshen it up.

Thank you

My friend swears by a few drops of Olbas Oil.

I've used diluted Green Gloop on the floor under the bed if I have a horse in on box rest.

If your stable is smelly you may need to do a daily full muck out so that the ammonia doesn't build up.

I have tried all sorts, different bedding etc, small bed, big bed, deep litter, just a sprinkling. Working best at the moment is big bed of pellets and shavings taking majority of the wet out daily. I think the root of the problem may lie under the rubber matting but obviously cant take that up daily. So just looking for something to freshen up inbetween me lifting the mats.

there is a company called the logical range. Google it. they do a stable cleaner that smells really nice. its like Jeyes but less chemical. i didn't like the smell of Jeyes so i use this now

That sounds like what I'm looking for, I want it to smell fresh not like a public loo like some disinfectants seem to smell...!

Stalosan F is a powdered disinfectant safe for use around livestock, Biodri is also good but more granulated if that makes sense!

Ha I just put that in to google..... guessing you dont use condoms to freshen your stables :D

Lol! Try safe4 disinfectant :).

They do a disinfectant and an odour killer. They are super concentrate so it lasts ages. I use a 8 litre garden sprayer to do the stable.really easy way to do it.

Thank you very much for all the replies, I'm sure he will smell nice and fresh soon enough. I borrowed another liveries disinfectant spray that was in a pump bottle that you just sprinkled on the bed and it smelt lovely. Guess you could do that with any of the suggestions. Just want something safe for him as he does love a lie down!

I just chuck a bucket of water with a squirt of apple scented Tesco (or Asda)'s own shampoo! Its like 50p for a big bottle, I use it for washing the horses but it also seems to make the stable smell nice and takes away that horrid smell of amonia.

Please be careful if you think your horse could eat any of the bedding. Do not sprinkle anything on a bed that you would not be happy to eat yourself!
