Jim update, now 7 weeks since op

We're now 7 weeks after his colic op & he's as bright as a button. I've given up with the Sedalin, the last few days it hasn't stopping him cantering around so I figured he was better off without it. The last couple of mornings he's been like Tigger on drugs once I let him go! Anyway, here's the pics. How do you think he looks? I'm really pleased with him & he seems to be standing much better behind now, before he's always stood with his hinds very close together - I wonder if that was to do with the ulcers & if so just how long have they been a problem for? I guess I'll never know.

I always said I'd never put a horse of mine through colic surgery but I'm so glad I did even though my nerves (& bank balance) have been in shreds for a lot of the time. For comparison here's a link to the last pics I posted at 3 weeks http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/sh...rue#Post4560788

he looks amazing, keep up the good work. he should only get better from her on in. I know its nerve wracking but it is worth it, I am sooo glad I let mine have surgery last may, he's back to his normal self and very very happy. I know without it he wouldnt be her at all.

best of luck when you turn him out properly by himself, I know it thrilling to see them running around again and being a horse as they should be, so best of luck and keep us posted on his progress.

He looks fantastic, a real credit to all the hard work that you have put into helping him with his recovery. I also thought that I could not put a horse through colic surgery as heard so many stories where unfortunately it hadn't worked out for the horse but when it came to my boy's turn, I had no hesitation in doing it. He was not ready to give up on life and I had to give him the chance. Yes it is a lot of money but when you look at these lovely pictures of your lad, it is worth every single penny. Well done to you.

He went out in a different, bigger, paddock yesterday & boy did he run! And buck. And run some more. I think he fitted a little bit of grazing in & a chat to the boys next door (which was the main reason for moving him, he's been starting to want company). He came in slightly tired but far more relaxed & tucked into his hay rather than playing with it.

I had yet another horrible reminder of how lucky I was in the afternoon. A friend lost her greatly loved mare to a very sudden & severe colic - the vet came out straight away but she couldn't be saved. It seems so unfair, this mare was so well looked after & everything was done right yet others aren't seen from one week to the next & have nothing go wrong. Thank God I was lucky, but I almost feel guilty saying it.
