I've applied and interviewed about an apprenticeship, where there's 2 spaces and 3 applicants in including me.

I'm hoping for some tips for my trial day that will make me stand out from the other two, so I can be offered a job.

I don't know what they're going to be looking for, whether it's hard working, friendliness or a mix.

My mind is telling me that the other two have already been offered the job and I'm just being given a sympathy trial.... I hope I'm wrong.

I really want this job, so I need help!

Having worked with young people to support them into Apprenticeships in my past role- please feel free to PM me. I may be able to dig out some old links and info for advice. :)

Firstly- don't let the negativity beat you! You have no idea what the employer is thinking, so go there with the attitude, that you have every opportunity to shine and you are going to!

If you have someone supporting you with the interview/work trial process (usually someone from the college or training provider)- give them a call too- they may be able to give you a few more details about what the employer is looking for and can perhaps help put your mind at ease. Also- do your research on the company, what they do, how long they have running etc.

I would perhaps give them a call before you start the work trial. Just say you are checking what time to arrive, what you need to wear, and that you are just making sure you are fully prepared. Go appropriately dressed for the role.

Most employers will look for someone who is keen to learn, friendly, willing to get stuck in and shows a genuine interest.

The fact you want the job as much as you do will probably show through anyway, but don't be scared to ask questions and to get stuck in or helping out. If you see something that needs doing, or that someone needs a hand, offer it rather than waiting to be asked.

Remember, your work trial is also an opportunity for you to find out a bit more about the company and the role- so speak to other staff and interact with your potential new colleagues. Again, don't be scared to ask questions!

Lastly- be yourself! An employer will want to know a bit about who you are, and how you would fit into the team too. Before you leave, thank them for the opportunity.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Be natural, they will expect anyone to be a bit nervous, so don't worry if you feel that way.
Have all your clothes clean and ready to go the night before, make sure you can get there on time and take some cash in case you need to buy a snack.
Have a look at the information you already have, is it a big company / family owned, what is your contacts name and their jobs.

Be the person everyone would like to work with - smile - be happy - be interested in everything - ask questions - and be prepared to help out whatever that might entail. One of the biggest turnoffs is someone who wont "muck in" when colleagues need help. Good luck.

Be friendly, talk to people but don't waste lots of time being over chatty.
Arrive on time!!!
Put your phone on silent and don't take personal calls / play on Facebook.
Act confident but not cocky
Get stuck in to whatever work you are given with a smile on your face

Thank you all for the helpful tips!
I went out today and bought some beige breeches (I thought my two tone jods would give the wrong impression!). I really love them, and I feel like they make me look more professional.

I guess I just have to go in and be super friendly and try to get along with the girls that work there. They actually seem very nice to begin with, so it should be easy for me.
I'm a big ole' bag of nerves but I'm determined to get this job!
