How many of you work with horses? or with animals in general? If not do you enjoy the job you do do?

Ive just finished off university and am due to start work in a few weeks and im not totally sure ill enjoy it. I would love a job i enjoyed but where i live its just not possible. I have to take what i can get.

If you want a career you will have to be prepared to move unless you can get a local job, I know this seems obvious but if you are primary school teacher starting at the bottom, then there will be more opportunities than if you did a scholastic degree, and live in a rural area far from academia.
You have got a job, just go with it, and remember most of your former schoolmates are unemployed.

I went down the uni route too as I didn't think I could make enough through working with horses.

However, as a graduate there will still be oppourtunities in the equine industry. Look at sales/marketing etc for equestrian companies. Large events such as Olympia, HOYS, Badminton etc will need professionals too -and don't discount larger equestrian centers....event management?

I work full time in a College (marketing) but work for a profesional photographer sometimes through the summer taking photos at BE. It is a nice combination. My dream is to start my own equestrian PR/Marketing/Photography company!

I agree that if you want to work within the animal industry you may have to move. Depends what you want to do really.

But if you have a job at the moment, hold on to it for a while till things pick up. If you move and don't like it, you could end up jobless, like millions of others, qualified, experienced or not.:(

I studied animal science and have done behaviour and training with horses & dogs. I would love a job with animals but in rural wales its just not possible. We aim to move to south wales in 4 months but until then I have a job as a carer. Its a job i dont mind but im not sure i can manage shift work/nights thats why im not looking forward to it.

basically this isnt a winge at what job ive got it was more a question of just how many people work in the animal industry or if not how many of you enjoy the job you do.

I studied animal management. Starting working on a travelling pet farm taking them to schools and teaching about the animals. Did that for a number of years. Now work in the marine industry and run a livery yard.
I have never had less than two jobs, break even rather than make a profit but it pays for my horses and I couldn't find jobs I enjoyed more now :)
To spend all hours with the horses is brilliant

I studied Equine Dentistry. Decided it wasn't for me and found it very hard to get work in Somerset and ended up doing the odd bit of office temping, working in a shop etc. I have just moved to London and am now a trainee veterinary nurse at a small animal practice and absolutely loving it. You may have to think about moving if there isn't much opportunity in your area.
