they have said the punishment could be a 1-28 day ban but is likely to be a ban in the lower of the possibilies that is outrageous

Ok, so it's a stupid thing to do in public, but i don't see the problem.. it's obviously an awkward horse.. porbably did it some good!!

yes but to be honest he didnt even fall off, he just bailed out and racehorses are just not going to be the best behaved are they, they are basically bred to be highly strung!

As i've said before, untill you've ridden pratting around racehorses with your knees up round its withers, don't comment on how easily he fell off!!

i really dont see how a headbutt is the right way to deal with a TB racehorse!!! for me it's more an issue of an idiotic attitude than the actual harm caused

It was on the cover of the Irish Independent today, with a photo of the jockey headbutting the horse and Zidane headbutting the italian guy.

From what I saw on the news it didn't even look as if his head made contact - just the peak on his hat silk. No I agree not a very wise way to deal with any horse no matter what the misdemeanor, BUT it would seem that alot of the outrage is a 'kneejerk' reaction - esp in the way its been dealt with by the media. The powers that be have no option but to throw the book at this guy now - if only to satisfy the general public.

someone on the news said the largest penalty he can get for his actions is a 20 day ban or something! it is a kneejerk reaction, but tbh racing isnt always seen in the best light anyway, apparently "cruel" and what with fallon's expeditions, this is exactly NOT what racing needed!

How can anyone condone that?really??? There is absolutely NO excuse for headbutting a wound up racehorse none at all i dont care what the excuses are!! Its just ridiculous that anyone would condone that its violent and out of order, if i fall off the last thing i do is head butt the horse for crying out loud!!!cant believe some people on here are condoning it!

Should have the book thrown at him and banned for a very long time in my opinion.

Nobody is condoning it - some of us are just pointing out that the horse made far less fuss about it than people are, and that it would appear that it was the peak on the hat silk that made contact not the jockeys forehead.

I honestly don't think anyone is condoning it, and if it'd been my horse I would've had a few choice words to say to the jockey, but if you see the video the horse barely seems to notice (it certainly doesn't throw its head up in the way you'd expect to, or if it had been slapped in the face) and since jockeys are allowed to whip horses during the race it simply seems as if things have been blown out of proportion.
Even a jockey who's been charged with excessive use of the whip only gets a temporary suspension and it doesn't become front page news.

no i wouldn't.. infact i've done it myself (with my hat on).. horse went to barge past me to look at something interesting, was about to clout me round the head, so i got him first! no big deal, no arms waving round to frighten it, just a shock on the nose!!

The thing i find shocking is, someone posted a while ago about stallion fighting in China, and no one seemed to give a damn.. a jockey over here gives a horse a bop on the nose with his own head, and all hell breaks loose!?!?!?!?!
Explain that!?!?!?!

Or trainers running lame/unfit horses, which i think is even worse!!

I mean i can be the biggest tree hugger of them all, i'm really soft when it comes to horses (all animils really) and even i can't see the problem with this!!
And some peoples reactions above are way OTT IMHO

Very true!! but Joe Schmo General Public wouldn't know a lame/unfit horse from a sound one, and they see jockeys smacking horses all the time (so then it must be OK) whereas they recognise a headbutt....
The comments I saw on one of the websites (possibly BBC) were of the opinion that it wasn't such a big deal really.
