Hi All...

I've got a rising 15 (:D) son and am having a bit of a problem with riding clothes for him...

He's 5' 8", 32" inside leg and a 28" waist which should, theoretically, fit into a pair of mens except they tend to look really saggy around the hips and legs as he's quite slim... Going through that typical, lanky teenage lad stage on the verge of starting to fill out... I've found some kiddies versions that fit but he feels a bit exposed with them being flat fronted and 'snug'...

Jeans...he's split two pair at the crotch whilst riding but he does like wearing them so suggestions for those would also be welcome...

What do yours wear without whinging?

Thank you :)

To make it worse there's a similarly aged girl at the yard he often hacks out with... Just friends but the 'snug look' is one that makes him die with embarrassment... One pair were consigned to the bin pretty quickly as they just looked like he was wearing tights... Not an attractive look it has to be said... :D

He'd much rather jeans and doesn't seem to have an issue with the in seams...but kills them pretty quickly... So I'm at a bit of a loss what to do/get next...

OK, these ones...

Nicely pleated in the right places. ;)

My son has a black pair which he uses mostly for lessons and a sand pair which he uses when he has to. They don't seem to do black any more, but they do charcoal which is practical. We got these last year and they are still looking good. They did seem quite costly but they have been worth it. At home he just wears trackies.

Hope that helps. :)

ETA they have belt loops, so if they are a bit loose he can use a belt. Better than being too snug probably. :D

I bought girls' stretch denim leggings for mine, cut out the labels and anything pertaining to the feminine ;) and left them strategically on the end of his bed. He loves them! Because they are cut for the curvier figure, they are plenty roomy enough to be slightly loose in the leg, and in the - ahem - other place, while being stretchy to ride in and they look very on trend as well. And they were very cheap, so now he has several pairs :D

We sell the Equetech Mens Breeches or Will Funnell breeches to a lot of teenage boys (we have a local Ag College! Full of teenage boys who do NOT want to wear the same as the girls)
They seem to fit well & are a reasonable price.
PM me if you would like more info!

Thank you for the link Nikicb... They do look smart and, as you say, appropriately pleated... :D

He doesn't have any tracksuit bottoms... But as Blood_magik suggested them too I might have to look into grabbing him a pair and see how he gets on with those... Good suggestion :) Are they lined or unlined versions?

Thanks Rowreach...I'd not have thought of leggings... I would have presumed they'd still be 'snug'...

I'd be interested in a link longdog... Thank you... :)

It's so frustrating... I could fill mine or my daughter's wardrobe in a whizz of shopping and at any budget... Teenage boys eh... :D

I generally ride in jeans unless it's raining or totally freezing anyway, those would be fine for everyday riding, mountain horse do some good mens breeches, also Horze used to as well.

Any particular brand? He does prefer jeans and wears them 'properly' rather than hanging low but has ripped a few pairs in the crotch area quite quickly...

My son was the same (he's now 'filled out' a bit but is 6' 2" and mostly leg! Now 16). He used to wear some old cast offs of mine - stretch denim type jodhs which seemed to do the job perfectly.

He now tends to wear ordinary jeans, but he doesn't ride that often nowadays (I wish he did, though coz he's pretty good :( )

My 16 year son rides in jeans. We play polocrosse and the polocrosse world they all ride in jeans. I still stick with my comfy jods though
