I dont normally post on this type of thing, but I have been lucky enough to have a months holiday in Northern India. On our travels around, we spent a couple of days in Jodhpur. I decided I couldnt visit withour a trip to the local polo club tailor and had a couple of pairs of made to measure joddies made. I thought 'in for a penny' and went for the full Col. Bygadsby c1932, look and have the big baggy tops, full length, high waist and slit front pockets, legs with button fastenings. They are FAB ! I never take them off, they are really comfy! How did this go out of fashion ? Lets bring 'em back !

They did come back briefly in the '80s. I had two pairs of cord ones - the tack shop was selling them off cheap because most people didn't find them very flattering.

Ohh - can't wait for photos!

I wish I'd kept hold of the hand-me-down jodhpurs that the kind, old horsey lady in my village used to give to me when I was young. At the time, I didn't want to wear them as they were old-fashioned. They were like the ones in the pictures you'd see in the original editions of the Jill books by Ruby Ferguson for those old enough to remember! :)

I remember the ones you mean! (Showing my age now) I even had a pair as my first joddies :( - hand me downs from an older horsey friend. They really did cut the circulation off below the knee whenever I bent or crouched down, even mounting was painful for the left knee, those who have only ever been clad in lycra just don't realise the pain we had to go through for our passion before the days of stretch fabric. I must say though, I loved that garment to bits (literally) those jodhs made me feel like a real rider, I would keep them on for hours after my lesson ended.

I remember them in the Jill books never had any though, I do remember those horrible ribbed nylon jodpurs that had no give they too used to cut the back of your knees.

Lucky you, my utterly favourite inherited pair died a few years ago (mind you they had put in 60 years of service). Most comfortable thing ever.

I had some in 1960. Thought they were the bees knees! Had 'roomy' pikeur ones too, with Lycra too of course upto the mid 2005s. Now I just buy two sizes larger of the straight cuts!!
