joey bashed his eye

this morning joey wacked his eye on the fence and couldnt open it, it was really crying too, vet came to look but said he shoul dbe ok just given himself a black eye!

anyones horse done this?

Yes Bailey looked like he'd done a round with frank bruno, his eye swelled like a rubber tyre, he was fine after 2 days I just bathed in cool salted water.

oh ok thank god, it was a bit more open when i left him so will see how it is tonight

Yes Blue did this to me last winter he couldn't open his eye at all! Bathed it in cold tea and it was fine a few days later!

My arab did it several times, he was a real wimp so would try to convince me he was dying whenever he did it. He always recovered well within a couple of days though and he never learnt to be more careful!

Mine did it on a tree in his field (dont ask me how - he was the clumsiest horse in the world!!!)!!!

I must have looked really funny holding a bag of frozen peas over it!

When one of our horses did it we were told to kep a close eye (!) on the pupil as if this changed shape / size it would indicate more serious damage. You do feel for them though - when ours did it he looked like he was crying! V Sad!!

oh no, poor horsey! I'd just get the vet out in a few weeks to check the eye is ok still.....
