Hi!!
My mare has a little problem of not wanting to walk, its jog or trot with her. I think it may be because she was mainly used for driving previously and they had jogged/trotted her everywhere. Does anyone have any advice to get her to break the habit??
Ive been working her alot oo the lunge and getting her to respond to my voice which is helping slightly and I have a lesson on Sunday so that is one of the things I would like to work on, but I thought id ask some expert advice on here first!

Thanks x

Does she move forward well? Ty used to jog all the time until we started reschooling him to move forward and not bunch himself up into a false outline!

Also, use your seat alot more and bear down on her when she jogs - always stops Ty as it's too much like hard work....i'd be inclined to relax in the mouth as that can wind them up more!

I've got one like this. If i ride her on a loose rein she'll happily plod along, but if i take up a contact and go for a trot / canter, then ask her to walk, she wont.

But as soon as i drop the contact, she'll walk. Drives me mad. I refuse to give her her head, and can manage a few strides of walk, but then she'll jog again. And this is AFTER being reschooled! Sooo annoying! And i use my seat really well - have to be really conscious of it with her - any tenseness at all, and she's off! And the more you pull on the reins, the faster she'll go, so we have to be really nice with our contact - she can be a right pain in the bum! Grrrrrrrrr!

Hope someone can provide a cure for your horse!

Yeah she responds to the leg quite well and moves forward with it.. When she does start to jog i alternate it between pushing her forward into trot, and making her halt. Lots of transitions to get her listening, then after working her in a while she does ride into a nice soft outline. I think its mostly excitement as shes probably the fittest shes ever been and she always giddyly joggs down to the field to be schooled. I'll ask my instructor for some tips aswell.
Thanks guys
