Hi Everybody,

Just take a look at this guys techniques for dealing with horse problems. He is amazing.

http://www.horseproblems.com.au/podcast.html

He is in Auz. ( unfortunately)

He has a solution for everything and his calm, logical analytical approach really works.
Just look at the one with the foal in
"Scales of lightness".
Thats the way to start horses, so young they hardly notice, thats getting an education so nothing is traumatic

We have so few people who can train and work with horses like this in the U.K.
I wish some of their apprentices would move over here!!

I cannot find anyone North of the borders, that can do this level of Horsemanship, and only one really of any standing in Kent.

Opinions folks?

I had a calm analytical approach to the horses i backed by traditional method ie: teaching them to lead(the babies learn to wear rugs with surcingle straps on so they get used to a tightening round their bellies

),could go on,but i had my lad from being 8mnth old,he is now 14 and i can promise you through breaking and backing myself he was far from traumatised,we had no issues, everything was done simply so he would understand, and he has turned into a well rounded individual, that loves and respects people whoever they may be

Haven't seen this guys "amazing vids" but at the risk of starting a popcorn war, Parelli also teach a one-rein stop tip!

Oh yes I know it can be done by our traditional methods, but you ve got to hand it to the Auzzies and the Western trainers, they make it so accessable and seem to get outstanding results.
I ve seen so many trainers using methods I do not approve of, such as draw reins and side reins, lunging in circles for weeks, using an array of gadgets such as Pessoas and balancing reins, sawing at mouths to get outlines in young horses, not addressing such issues as bolting, bucking and rearing as though its acceptable for a newly broken/green horse to do this.

All this nonsense about the vilification of Parelli is ridiculous. The man is revered very highly by many people who have made wonderful progress with their horses,( whether they ride them or not - at least they get to enjoy them) and is also held in high esteem by many trainers throughout the world.

I think its intresting how the Americans and the aussies have still got the practical old horsemanship skills that so many of our horse people have lost, maybe its because the horse is still very much a working animal over there and for that needs to be properly broke, be relaxed and happy and not just perform in a show class for a few minutes ,and intresting that many of the top english riding style people are training with and watching the western things like reining to improve their dressage, jumping etc, all good realy, and hopefully we are re learning old skills I love western riding but realy its just classical horsemanship IMHO

In total agreement with you there perfect11s.
Just watch some of these videos folks, they are an enlightment especially the ones about assessment of horses that have been to trainers and have come home with major problems still, an those horses that are behaving badly because they are unsound and incapable of the work their riders are asking of them.
Seen so many myself like this at shows, yet the riders relentless persist in schooling these poor creatures.

The full list of videos are here, and covers everything imaginable.

[/ QUOTE ] I was just looking at his videos one day and came across it,i dont doubt Parelli also teach it! I personally prefer to watch him,he explains everything perfectly and for me he is easy to understand and his videos are short and sweet and to the point,i think he is one of the best 'natural' horseman out there, but thats just MHO.

No - he's NOT amazing. IMHO, he's pretty average most of the time - and sometimes he talks total bo**ocks!

The foal video really annoys me. Letting a mare stoll around - leaving her foal - with a leadrope trailing - and expecting the poor foal to stay with him.....

AND it's on a dangerous surface - if the foal wasn't 'easy' the risk would be enormous that he'd turn himself over backwards. At best it's going to be stressed (and foals are HIGH risk for stress-related ulcers!)

Occasionally he talks sense (but I'm sure it's just an accident!
