'John Terry's wife Toni gets England call-up'...

dont you just love the daily mail! yes she is prob on team for inter nations (when normally more than one team for each country) but it isn't the olympics as they try make it sounds.

Good on her as she is now competing BD but she is no where near what they are claiming!!

Good on her, whatever anyone says if shes only been riding for two years shes doing well!

on another note.....what the hell is she wearing? urgh!!!!!!!

I had to laugh at the article in OK! recently which showed her at Oldencraig (although didn't notice if she actually liveried there) wearing a selection of beautiful dresses/heels and pretending to muck out etc

Did anyone see her at HOYS? Apparently she did a demonstration with her trainer?

Be fair. She rode as a child & her father rides. She came back to riding 2 years ago so not the total novice only there because of money (although I'm sure it isn't a disadvantage!)
I've also heard she's very nice.

And everyone moans about bitchy horsey women...

Good for her if she's doing Inter Nations, she's always been horsey and now she has the opportunity to ride nice horses - wouldn't you?

No need to make snide comments just because the Daily Mail is a rubbish newspaper.

Hmmm just looked up her BD record and she's competed twice at elementary getting between 62 and 66 odd percent, on a horse that is trained to grand prix level. I don't think Laura B should be worried just yet!

The pictures were taken at Olympia where she was doing a display - Viki Thompson was also wearing the same jacket. It was a bit of bling for a display to Micheal Jackson music - must have been pretty scary doing that

Good on her. I'm pretty sure i'd never be that good. Grand prix horse or not... And i've got 30yrs riding experience behind me...

If i had the money, or had managed to bag myself a footballer, i'd grab every opportunity i could. Go toni!

Haha i have to agree, maybe if she was riding horses at her own level she wouldn't be umm.. 'doing so well'..

Also that jacket is grotesque!

She was successful at the Inter Regionals and so I am guessing will go to the Home International in October which is what the article is about.
She is nice and keeps herself to herself at shows without all the drama you get from some other names.
Remember of course that she owns Beltoni who is a serious up and coming horse in dressage which we so desperately need. Lets hope she continues to enjoy dressage as that way hopefully she will not sell the horse abroad!

ETA: It is perfectly legal to downgrade horses, lots of people do it.

Just to add... I have spoken to her too and she is very nice and down to earth. I am not competing at that level and would be pleased with her results.... was just interested to see what level she was competing at, and it's not very high level just yet.

The point about Beltoni is a good one... a great horse who looks like he might do great things in the future. Let's hope they keep him.

I saw her at Olympia and was impressed with her riding, especially after seeing Katie Price ride! - It was a great advertisement for Oldencraig as she had only been back into riding a small time. For all those people claiming money is the only reason she is there - you often see older GP dressage horses for loan, so it needn't be bank breaking. Okay the spare cash for lessons would be nice, but good on her for getting out there and competing affiliated.

And FWIW, if most of us here got on a GP schoolmaster and rode an elementary test we would probably achieve similar scores - sometimes it is a hindrance not a help to have a horse that's constantly waiting for us to ask for passage/piaffe/airs above ground :P

Good on her I say. She's very pretty, prettier than Katie Price.

I dont think there is anything wrong with what she is doing, shes obviously passionate about horses like we all are and trying her best. It can't be easy having your relationship spashed about the media, its bad enough when partners cheat without having the whole world know about it. It can't be easy having a famous footballer as a husband either with all those women after him.

I dont think we should slag her off, we should just let her be so she can enjoy the sport.

I say good on her too, the jacket is obviously for display purposes as Vicky Thomson is also wearing one.

Not everyone can ride a highly trained horse either, they have very specific buttons and it is very very easy to press the wrong one! A good schoolmaster will not do the movements if you don't ask them right! So for those who think they could do the same on a GP horse - have you ever ridden one?

I do find the 'only ridden for two years' stuff very misleading - she's had horses all her life, kept at home - it's not like she's never ridden before.

She's on the Home International team, riding at Novice, isn't she? Whilst I admire her for getting there, especially after her life has been dragged through the papers, she has practically limitless money and a lot less constraints that most riders/mothers have (full time nannies, no full time job, no mucking out!)....I would think a lot of people could get to the Home Internationals at Novice/Elementary level, given the opportunity to train with Vickie every day, on well schooled, well bred, very expensive horses. Good luck to her though, by all accounts she rides nicely, and got the results at the Inter-regionals, so her effectively earned her place on the team...

I have to say I'm getting pretty fed up with people b*tching!!

Good for her is all I can say. I'd love to be able to do what she's able to do. I think if we all had that amount of cash available we'd all get the extra tutition and perhaps buy that horse we've all had our eye on that costs just that bit too much for us.

She's raising the profile of the sport so surely that must be a good thing.

The pictures are all from the Vicki Thompson demo at Olympia, good for her having a go. I'd have been to petrified to even attempt a prelim dressage test in that sort of arena!

I saw her at Edenbridge and Oxted show a couple of years ago watching all the showing and jumping and not attracting half the attention "some" people get.

Surely we should be supporting those who raise the profile of the equestrian sports in general, especially if they are buying nice horses which are staying in the country!

p.s if I got 60% in a test of that standard, I'd retire from dressage a very very happy person!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I saw her at Olympia. Lovely horse, but she was very much being "led" by Vicki Thomson and always seemed to be fractionally behind her trainer.

She's no doubt a very capable rider but to suggest she's a dead cert for London 2012 is absurd.:p

I have tried to post on the DM website that if she wants to be taken seriously she needs to get rid of the diamante encrusted jacket, but the comment got stuck somewhere and didn't go through.:eek:

Good for her though, no harm in ambition and if you can afford it, why not?
Much nicer to see a WAG doing something that requires skill, patience and thought for another being, i.e her horses.:)

gosh, those lapels left me with snow/sparkle blindness for a while, but hey why not, it was for a Michael Jackson themed display wasnt it, so in keeping with that?!

great looking horse, hilarious costume/jacket, high profile woman with pots of dosh having some fun and competing with success at a respectable (but not mind blowing level). fair play to her... and lets face it its hardly the first time this sort of situation (ie. money and profile giving a leg up!) has arisen in the horse world!

what I generally take umbrage with is the Daily Mail - on every level an appalling rag with lower journalistic standards than most school newspapers, but that's just my little soapbox.

good on toni terry, she looks like she's enjoying her hobby, doing well and boy i'd just love to have her buying power!! ;-)

I have to say I'm getting pretty fed up with people b*tching!!

I think that is a little unfair and I don't think people are being mean in a b*tchy way. Most replies are saying well done and good on her. What people feel a bit greived about is how money plays a big part in the success of these people, and yes perhaps its a little bit of the green eyed monster, but no one can ever say they have never ever felt a small pang of jelousy in thier lives.

Good for her, if she has to throw herself into something to try and keep her self esteem after her husbands behaviour....then what better than horses? I wish her all the luck in the world and hope she does really well, her horse looks really genuine and should look after her, horses are the best healers me thinks.

I can only assume the people slagging her off are jealous for whatever reason. The truth is money does help in many sports, but you won't get anywhere without the hard work. There are many other people wealthy enough to train daily and have fantastic horses, that's the reality.

For the record I've been a livery with her and she's a lovely, thoughtful and kind person. She WAS a complete nervous novice 2 yrs ago and did the right thing by having lunge lessons on her schoolmaster (NOT a big flashy WB) prior to buying Diamond Fritz and Beltoni. She trains hard, takes criticism and is out there actually "doing it". What's wrong with that? I think to progress that quickly in 2 years is a huge achievement, she looks much more confident now. A GP horse isn't a push button donkey, it still needs accurate and correct riding.
