After passing my mare on to my oh as too complicated a ride for me, my friend has decided l need a cob? She has a rising three cob gelding who is needing rehomed,so.........I am now waiting on a delivery date from England. Has old age finally caught up with me? :O After a lifetime of riding 'finer' horses I haven't a clue what to expect. I guess I will have to buy myself a mounting block and a pair of wooly knickers :D of course, I'm joking.of course. Really looking forward to meeting Harry. It feels like the build up to xmas. Anyone else have cobs in hot countries? How do they cope?

Get a sidesaddle! Unless you have very flexi hips. Sitting sideways is the only way I could ride a cob without crippling myself.

Is Harry a traditional colored sort, how usual are they in Italy? You could start a trend, especially decked out with a straw hat ! :)
Do you still have your QH's?

Cobs rule ! My 2 are hotter to ride and will leave many of the finer horses in their wake. Do agree with side saddle tho my 2 are a bit sore on the hips being xxw and that's lean and fit.

I'm pretty sure any self respecting cob would eat a straw hat :D

My last horse was a TB. In my experience so far, cobs are far, far more complicated characters. Don't let their cuddly, hairy looks deceive you!

Cobs are brilliant! They usually have a much better head on their shoulders than 'finer' horses do, and so you need to be aware that if you ask them to do something they think is stupid, they'll jolly well tell you so - it's quite a similar attitude to a good native pony, really.

Be prepared for lots of personality, plenty of horse sense, and far more fun than you ever thought you could have on a small-to-middling hairy thing!

I love my cobs more than any horse I've ever owned.

Today I had a super fantastic SJ lesson on one and a brilliant hack on the other which involved wood lorries, narrow roads and HGVs. The pleasure I get from her not batting an eye at anything that should be scary, is immense. They can both do everything I ever want to do (jump a metre track and go xc etc) and they do it with all their little cobby hearts and most importantly, sensible cobby heads.

I was converted to cobs 3 yrs ago, but please tell me you are not intending to ride a two year old anything, my lad was still quite scrawny at 3 yrs old, now rising 6yrs old he's twice the width he was and a good hand taller

Don't worry, I wont be riding him for at least a year and a half. Got lots of long reining to do first :)

I think I'll wear the straw hat :D Got a transporter sorted out and now need my friend to sort out the export papers. Like you Enfys Ive never had a cob so looking forward to the experience. I like the thought of trundling round the Italian countryside with my trusty cob and sharing my sarnies with him under a fig tree :) Gives a whole new feeling to riding. I had my first lesson this morning after 30 odd years. Excellent instructor, he's Cadre Noir trained and boy can he explain why, when and how ! Best ever lesson Ive had in my life and looking forward to the next few hundred. Extremely good value at 15 euro for an hours private lesson. So looking forward to the rest of my life :D

Harry is bay with a blaze and two white socks. Pics will follow. I sold my Qhs, Madam went to Switzerland where she is now doing cutting and team penning. Sunny was bought by Bernard Fonck who rode his sire in the world championship (reining) which they won 3 times. Maybe one day....! I get regular updates on Madam via Sandra (who competed her for me) as she trains Madam and her new owner. Sunny is now broken and doing his sliding stops and spins like a good un. Will eventually go and see him when I think I can come away without being upset :/ All in all, they have both been lucky :) X

I love my super cob!
I clip all year round to help her so that when she competes, she isn't having to do it in a woolly jumper (especially on warmer days).

Mine wouldnt have coped in a ht country. He barely coped here  Hes hogged and clipped now and much happier. Some dont seem notice all the hair though. So I guess it depends on the horse you get. Mines a bit of a drama queen! Hes also a complete clown and into everything. Oh and super bright. He assesses everyone he meets and decides straight away if theres any weakness to exploit. If there is he will. If there isnt, then butter wouldnt melt and hes angelic!

The phrase "when hes good, hes very, very good, but when hes bad, hes horrid!" was made for mine

Ha! It will be. Everyone who meets him loves Frankie and finds him utterly charming, which he is, and I adore him beyond words. I do sometimes look at the big hunters on his yard, who arent trying to pick up the grooming kit bag etc, and think, that would be a nice rest
