I keep reading about horses having joint injections for different conditions.

Could someone please give me an idiots guide to the types of injections given, the conditions they would be used to treat, whether they are used on a one-off basis or expected to be ongoing etc.

Thank you :)

Have had many different horses joints injected (i should point out i work with them they are not all mine!).What is injected depends on why the joint is being injected normaly done when they have arthritis or joint inflamation and can be steriods, although joints can be injected as part of the diagnositics when it is blocked out.
Hocks seem to be medicated frequently have had several over the years with with done but have also known fetlocks, coffin joints scaroilic joint, knees and recently facet joints in back. Seems to depend on problem and how they respond as to frequency friends pony had hocks medicated started off every 18months then droped to 12 months then 6 months over a about 5/6 years period now no longer medicated and is on bute but isabout 22 now and was diagnosied at 12 so not doing bad
If you have a look at this it has some really good info you may need to regiaster to read it but it is free
