i've had my TB for almost 2 years now hes 13 and before i had him he used to race. the reason he retired was because he had bad knees and the only way to keep him racing was with inections into the joints because he didnt have enough fluid in there. recently ive noticed that he is getting a bt stiff and takes ages to warm up. he is stabled at night and out as much as possible during the day.
what my question is is if there are any other who have had theis problem with lack of joint lubrication and how to deal with it?

i have been looking at supplements but theres just so much choice i just dont know what to try and if now hes had injections is he has to carry on with them?
i'd rather not do that would much rather try to help with supplements!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hiya

I know it sounds boring but your Vet would probably be the best person to advise you!- one of my horses has had joint injections with Adequan for a problem with the joint cartilage- luckily my insurance covered the cost - had they not then it would have been about £500 per injection, so as you say it may be best to try a joint supplement first - I've been using Newmarket joint supplement on my horses and it seems to work very well- however there are so many of them!- maybe one with Hyaluronic Acid in would suit your horse better(?).

It depends on the nature of the problem I think as to how many injections are necessary and how long they last- I may be wrong but I (think) that they last 4 about 6 months..

Gd luck though!

sinequin is a great joint supplement i swear by it!! theres a horse at my yard on it who was reccomended never to be ridden again then 2 months on this he was like a new horse he hunts and hacks happy as larry its expensive along the lines of £150 per pot but its worth it good luck

I used to compete professionally and my horse and many on the yard had joint injections, they are expensive but really do work and they will last quite a long time unless the horse is being worked really hard or has a specific problem in that joint.
I also feed cortaflex HA to my horse which does make a difference but there are other very good supplements out there.
It really is personal choice, my horse has a supplement to keep him flexable all over, he dosent have a specific area that bothers him, I would possibly try the supplement and see if that helps then maybe speak to your vet?
I hope that helps.
