My mare had a chip removed from her hock in February. Box rest, lots of in hand walking. She had her hock medicated with arhtramid (chip was huge but did no damage to joint) and she returned to ridden walk hacking end of March.
She decided to charge around the muddy field start of April causing her hock to swell. Cold hosing and bute, it went down after 5 days and the vet wasn’t worried. He said there is still some inflammation there but to keep walk riding her to keep it active. She can be a case in the field if in no work.
All going well in last few weeks.. vet visited a week ago and lunged her. Flexion tested on the lunge and sound so he was happy for me to carry on getting her fit. He said if it fills but she’s sound, not to worry to much as it will probably go up and down over the next few months. I’ve been cold hosing after every ride as a precaution.
Yesterday she got her head under the electric fence and freaked, taking the fence with her (she is just that one horse that this happens to!) luckily the fence snapped but caused her to go beserk.
And.. guess what. Hock is swollen/filled again this morning. I’ve given another 2 bute.
Has anyone else had a joint operated on that keeps filling? It doesn’t help these silly incidents keep happening.
