I've seen a couple of threads about joint ownership. Most of them seem to think it's a bad idea. Oop :)

My question is whether anyone knows if you can have both owners' names on the horse's passport?

Me and a friend are thinking of buying a horse together. We've had a good chat about what we want, what would happen etc etc. We both have our horses at the same yard and we have similar views about horse care etc. We'd put everything we've agreed in writing as well.

Hi,
I joint own and both our names are on the passport and registered with WPCS.
Good luck...it's fun!

Bryndu:)

I don't see why not. As far as I'm aware (or so Weatherby's told me) a passport isn't a legal document of ownership, so if you wanted it documented properly it might be better to get it drawn up by a solicitor, might save future unpleasantness...

Thanks both.

We would have a written ownership document (and I am a solicitor ^_^)

I'd be really grateful for copies of a document to make sure we cover all the things we need to. I've got hold of one from Net Lawman and have an idea about what things to deal with, but all suggestions very welcome, thank you!

And any experiences of how to make it work too :)

Thanks everyone!

Sorry, didn't mean to teach your granny to suck eggs... :o

I don't have an pro-forma agreement - might be worth looking at the BHS website?
